With AuroraTV (SAT>IP Android app) I can scan DVB-C channels using the homing channel parameters. I also would like to do this with DVBViewer Pro as my Mutant HD2400 currently doesn't accept more than 10 hardware pids at the same time. Also, with homing channel parameters all 300 channels are scanned within 15 seconds instead of 75 seconds with the current method of DVBViewer. So, maybe interesting for DVBViewer Pro to support this homing channel to boost the speed of channelscan ;-) Edited August 17, 2017 by Retrofan Quote Link to comment
Tjod Posted August 17, 2017 Share Posted August 17, 2017 If you have devices in the DVBViewer under Options > Hardware, then there is a hardware.xml in the Configuration folder. And you can build more specialised transponder lists. If you use TransEdit http://www.DVBViewer.com/griga/TransEdit E/SettingsWindow.html#Scanner1 "Mark transponders without signal/PAT with [X] / [N]" and "Skip [X]-marked transponders on „Scan All" and from the second scan on it should be faster. About homing channel method (also known as Fast channel search) parameters, look over here: https://dvblogic.com/wiki/index.php/TVSource:_search_channels:_DVB-C DVBLink TVSource also does support this fast way of scanning which includes scanning of Network-ID's. The user only needs to set one frequency (the homing channel) which contains all the information about all other available transponders. If the transponderlist changes, the homing channel will do this automatically as this frequency stays the same. For example: scanning with DVBViewer Pro takes 60 seconds, which is fast, but with the homing channel (in AuroraTV) it only takes 15 seconds (!!) Tjod Posted August 17, 2017 Share Posted August 17, 2017 The DVBViewer Supports scanning the Network Information Table. But that will not generating a shorter transponder list. It will only add new frequency to scan and never remove one. Scanning the NIT from one transponder and only scan frequency listed there would be faster. But is in many cases not reliable. There are many DVB provider which are not listing all transponder parameters on all frequency. Therefore the DVBViewer "Search for additional frequencies" and TransEdit "Scan NIT and update transponder list while scanning" will scan the NIT on every transponder and only Add/Update but never remove frequency from the list to scan. And this will mostly not change, because reliability is for a channel scan more imported the speed. If you can convince world wide all DVB-T, DVB-S and DVB-C provider to use couplet NIT on every transponder this could change. But I doubt that will ever happen. If you like to have the same effete in TransEdit, delete all but one working transponder from the list, Scan > Update save the transponder list and use this one from now on. Quote Link to comment

It's not a big deal, but I just was curious about this as DVBLink TVSource does support this way of fast scanning and I have no problems with getting all the channels with scanning one homing channel. It is used by almost all cable providers and is even mandatory as a minimum requirement of German DVB-T2 devices though it isn't implemented on the German terrestrial network Quote Link to comment

Because providing the data for a working Transponder requires some advanced knowledge. And somone how is able to find that data can eaely create a own Transponder list. I see the difference between a generic transponder list, with a lot unused transponders without a signal. Or a exactly matching transponder list where each transponder has a signal. If you have only scan 45 transponders instead of 588 transponders that speed up things a lot. And scanning a transponder without signal and waiting for all time outs takes a lot longer the to get a signal on a transponder with channels. But I don't see where other things would make a additional noticeable difference. @Derrick but feel free to describe it here in detailed. What exactly the difference is. The homing channel contains the data of active transponders, so it's always updated. Could you also please support Logical Channel number (LCN) Descriptor, page 12? Tjod Posted August 28, 2017 Share Posted August 28, 2017 Channel Numbers are determined by the position of the channel in the channel list. Therefore gaps between channel numbers are not possible. And that will not change in the foreseeable future. Because it would require replacing the current channel list format (storage format an in memory format used by the DVBViewer for everything related to channel data).
