"The BBC today (Wednesday 12 March 2003) announced that from 30 May it will, for the first time, broadcast its eight TV channels unencrypted on digital satellite. This decision means that digital satellite viewers in the UK will, in the future, be able to receive the BBC channels without a Sky viewing card, through any make of digital satellite receiver. Current and future Sky subscribers will still be able to receive all the BBC's services. It also means that the BBC will save an estimated £85 million over the next five years because it will no longer be using BSkyB's Conditional Access system." Quote Link to comment

kardzali Posted March 12, 2003 Share Posted March 12, 2003 BBC have a variety of programming ranging from movies, soaps (mostly british), music, sport, news, gardening, home improvement, children's programmes, youth programmes, cultural programmes, and others. Some of the programming might not appeal to you as it's British. They also have interactive services running on selected programmes. For instance some football matches I've watched you can change the commentary to radio 5 live or just stadium sound. You have statistics and highlights running. It is quite good if you have means to access it. It would be even better if DVBViewer could some day support interactive TV. Quote Link to comment

Here's the channels, radio is currently FTA with the exception of 5Live, apparently ITV will do the same when their contract expires in August 2004, then Channel 4 and possibly others could follow. glotzy Posted March 13, 2003 Share Posted March 13, 2003 BBC uses Astra 2D - see annoncement of BBC at the top. Unfortunetly the focus of Astra 2D is almost only UK - with a very rare chance to get it in some parts of France, Belgium an Germany. Quote Link to comment
