Etienne
Hello, As many European DVBViewer users, in many countrys channels are crypted. There are 2 solutions with DVBViewer (and legal subscription): 1) using a PCI card with PCMCIA slot 2) using a PCI card without a PCMCIA but with a PoorMansCam like interface. Both solutions works perfectly with latests DVBViewer . I use solution 2) . In case of channel switching , the PoorMansCam pluggin takes the first (of 3) ECM that is storing in Channel.dat file for each channel. Otherwise, the pluggin is searching itself and takes some seconds... The channel management windows don't take care about ECM today. Is it possible to implement it in future ? Guest Lars_MQ
The CAM of the dvbhardware does handle the ecms (the only legal way). So there is no need to change it. Quote Link to comment

Hello Lars Does it mean that PMCAM is not legal and I must change my DVB card to a Skystar 1 card + PCMCIA (cost are very expensive!) ? Etienne Quote Link to comment
Guest Lars_MQ
There is no legal way to receive encrypted channels with a card without CI and CAM. All software solutions are illegal (at least in most of the countries the DVBViewer is used, especially the country the the company of the DVBViewer resides). Even that may be against the contract with the PayTV-Provider (but thats not our concern, that's something the user is responsible of). BTW the Skystar 1 (the one with the onboard MPEG-Decoder - not the Skystar1/CI (a labeled Twinhan)) does not work with the DVBViewer. Quote Link to comment
Etienne
Ok, I understand your point of view concerning PMCAM. I would only notice that other dvb software have the requested functionality. But your software is one of the best! So i have a look at : http://www.twinhan.com/product_satellite_5.asp Is this one working with DVBViewer, and is it quick for channel swapping ? Is it a place in this forum to read experiences about cards with PCMCIA interface ? Regards Etienne Quote Link to comment
CiNcH
Why is it actually illegal? Guess license fees? What does a CAM manufacturer like Mascom have to pay? Fees for CSA and CAS? Quote Link to comment
hackbart
The csa algorithm is patented and also prohibits a software solution. So forget even think about it - i bet it is just a question of time till other applications (especially which are commercial) will receive lawsuits. Christian Quote Link to comment

hdv
Hello, Twinhan cards will be work in DVBViewer Pro. You can use the normal driver or the newer bda-driver. Also DiseqC and the CAM is supported by DVBViewer. PS: also FireDTV and TechnoTrend. Quote Link to comment

Have you such a card? If yes, how fast is channel switching with DVBViewer ? Etienne Quote Link to comment
