DVBViewer Pro 3.5.0.100 Beta and DVBViewer GE 2.1.1 (or later) extend the EPG search function by providing an additional "Internet" Button (see EPG window, click the binocular icon). It opens a popup menu, allowing you to select a site - a convenient way to obtain additional information about broadcasts.

 

This feature requires the file EPG_URLList.ini. By default it is located in the DVBViewer program folder. However, in the user modes 1 and 2 DVBViewer copies it to the user profile and reads it from there henceforth. Use Help/Info -> Configuration Folder (DVBViewer GE, DVBViewer Pro Beta) resp. Help -> Info -> Version Info -> click on path (DVBViewer Pro 3.6.1.20) for finding the actually used file.

 

The file EPG_URLList.ini contains a list of the URLs that are offered by the popup menu. You may modify or extend the list by using a text editor. Since the default file that is part of the DVBViewer installation mainly contains German URLs, you probably will have to...

 

Maintaining and extending this list will be up to DVBViewer users in future. So if you know an URL that is useful as EPG search extension, please post it here as code (like below) or attach your EPG_URLList.ini as (zipped) file.

 

Here is an example for an entry:

The section name [urlList] must only appear once at the beginning of the file. The entries must be numbered without gap, beginning with 0. Each entry consists of three lines:

 

- URL.x ist the internet address of the site that shall be used for the search. :Item: ist the placeholder for the search item, that is inserted by DVBViewer. Of course the URL must be specified in a way that the site understands it as search request, inluding the :Item: inserted by DVBViewer. In the example above %22 is the hex code for a quotation mark.

 

- Name.x is the name that appears in the popup menu.

 

- Blank.x (optionally) specifies the character(s) that shall replace blanks in the search item. Google wants a + sign. If the Blank.x line is missing, a blank will be replaced by %20 (hex code for space character).

 

Please note: This feature may be abused as a potential point of attack by internet criminals. So please don't use URLs proposed in this forum without checking them carefully!!!

Every now and then there are complaints about the forum search not allowing three-letter-items like "AC3" or "BDA". However, a more tolerant search function can be easily added in DVBViewer (suprising, isn't it?), by extending the EPG internet search, as described above, and a little help from Google

 

All you have to do is to append the following entries to the file EPG_URLList.ini:

 

URL.7=http://www.google.com/search?q=+site%3Awww.DVBViewer.info/forum+:Item:
Name.7=DVBViewer Forum via Google
Blank.7=+

 

Please note: The entries in the file EPG_URLList.ini must be numbered without gap, beginning with 0. So it will be necessary to replace .7 in the example above by the appropriate number for your file. Take care to modify the correct file (it must be the one in the configuration folder, see first posting).

 

After clicking the Internet button in the search bar of the EPG window the popup menu will offer the new menu entry "DVBViewer Forum via Google". Enter the search item(s), select the new menu entry, and you will see...
