Recordingservice Beta

i have a situation

once ip address is set on new beta and has been working for a while...

then

i have had to reset the pc from a backup and in doing so the auto ip address set by the pc has changed from 192.168.1.68. to 192.168.1.64

the recording service keeps wanting to connect to the ip address originally set before i reset ie 192.168.1.68

i know how to manually set the pc ip address to match the original recording service ip address but i dont want to use that address anymore

i have tried deleting the service to enable an earlier addition installation which allows me to revert back to 0:0:0:0 .at this i can change to ip address to a new one .......

but when i installed the latest version of the service after this change it reverts back to the ip address which im trying to change

how do i totally clear this to allow a new entry of an ip address of my choosing

Few bugs/features:

1.

http://server/mobil/epg_list.html?aktion=e...t&chan_id=2

and (REC) link is as follows:

java script:popup2('timer_new.html?aktion=timer_new&silent=1&time=39698,3232638889&channel=2')yes

causes a javascript error. this can be fixed in epg_list.html:

<a href="java script:popup2('{recurl}'){doclose}">(REC)</a> ->

<a href="java script:popup2('{recurl}');">(REC)</a>

same problem in epg_details.html record link.

2. timer_new.html

The new timer is not active by default I resolved it by editing timer_new.html:

<td><input type="radio" name="active" value="1" {activeja}>{lngYes}

->

<td><input type="radio" name="active" value="1" checked {activeja}>{lngYes}

Ive just installed the recordingservice Version 1.4.4.25, onto a clean install (and working) of DVBViewer. Activate it DVBViewer plugins.. But when i go to the http page i dont get any epg, favorites does not work, etc.. It detects both my dvb cards.. This is what i get for starter page rserror.jpg .. maybe i need some run time soft, this is also a clean install of Vista sp1.. ill post support.zip later on if it needs.

it seems 1.4.4.25 "search epg" is not working with google chrome. just keeps trying the host when clicking "Search".

I'm not able to watch recordings with vlc 0.9.4 installed on the recordingservice server. those streams won't open. also haven't been able to watch recordings with popcorn hour. that play icon doesn't have any link.

if popcorn hour would have support for m2ts subtitles would it be possible for recording service to send also DVB subtitles in TS stream?

of course it would be possible to send the DVB-Sub stream.

As for VLC: You need to use VLC 0.8.6 on the PC with the recording service. 0.9.4 is badly broken and not useable.

Recordings playback does not work with the popcorn hour via the recording service, use the normal playback machnism of the PCH.

would it be possible already? that way I could watch live stream with vlc and select to show DVB and teletext subtitles.

with 0.8.6i it works.

what about the search epg chrome problem?

I'm having two different problems with the recording service. The same problems have happened with all the current 1.4.xx versions of the recording service. First problem is that the service randomly disables timers for no apparent reason. I've looked through the logs, but i have not found anything about it. I don't check the recordings daily so I cannot exactly point out the time when it has happened, but for example some day last week it did happen for the "salatut elämät" timer. What could cause this?

The second even more serious problem is that some times the dvbservice.exe just hangs and doesn't do the supposed recordings or operate the web-service anymore. I notice this mostly so that when closing DVBViewer the service's tray icon stays gray. Upgrading my tv-card's drivers mostly fixed this problem, but some times still happens. What could cause this behavior?

The htpc is running XP SP3 and there are two technotrend tt-1501C dvb-c cards using the newest 5.xx.19 drivers.

These reliability problems undermine usability of scheduled recordings quite a bit so i would be very happy to receive any assistance in solving these problems.

This is great. Just gets better and better. Thank you.

One small issue. Configuration>Favourites - I have no favourites anymore now I have updated. Where does it get this from. I found teh favourites.XML in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\CMUV\DVBViewer. This has nto changed.

I am using the Freesat EPG as well. Works great.

I updated to 1.4.6.0 yesterday, and once again, another great update. Thanks. I can't believe how much added value I've got from a single purchase of DVBViewer compared to what (little) Microsoft have given with Media Center.

I did have a problem with some recordings last night, not sure if it's related to 1.4.6.0 or not. I had 3 recordings set last night, and when I came to watch them this morning I found that the last two were 4KB and the first recording was truncated after 1h35m (for a 1h55m recording). When I checked the log file for the truncated recording, I saw that there was a stream discontinuity at 1h35m and from then on the file size never grew (i.e. the log reported the same size at 1h35m as at 1h55m - I hope this makes sense to anyone reading). So I suspect that something stopped streaming at that point.

I'm using a Terratec Cinergy 2400i DT card, and it is usually rock solid. I notice in DVBViewer itself, or in DVBViewer GE, if there is a really bad discontinuities, I begin to get a load of "Graph Too Late" (Graph Too Late (0), Graph Too Late (1)...Graph Too Late (100) etc.) messages and video/audio stops. Is this what happened last night with the Recording Service? The recordings were back to back on the same channel, so presumably no retune was performed in between. Given that the card tuned just fine this morning (no reboot since last night) it seems that just the graph was broken rather than the driver died, similar to the Graph Too Late in DVBViewer/DVBViewer GE. Is there any way to prevent that from happening?

Hi,

Thanks for the update - EPG update works very well.

I'd like to really test the search facility and tasks but I don't think I understand it properly. Is it now possible to add one of my search presets as a task so that the recording service can execute it automatically and regularly?

I tried adding an autotimer task from the configuration menu but all I seem to be able to configure is its name and description and the things I add don't appear in the timer / task list in the control interface.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks!

Having heavy discontinuieties is something which has to be addressed first. how do they happen and why? The service does not use any directshow components which can be disturbed by this (decoders or renderers) so the only point of failure is the driver (this includes a CAM).

I tried several strategies on driver/datastream failure but all lead to more problems than before (restarting/retuning etc). So I don't have a solution.

The best I can advise:

- Try to eleminate the reason for discontinuities.

- if you use standby/hibernate try the reset on standby hardware option. Though it does not work on every device/driver.

- always use TS as recording format.

I use myself the recording service exclusively for recording with 3 different devices in one PC (TT, FireDTV and a Medion hybrid aka creative whatever) and I've experienced very little problems.

BUT there are so many devices and PC hard/software configurations out there, it is impossible for me to test/guaranty that it works on every one. Especially using standby/hibernate can cause problematic interactions with other hardware/drivers/software...

In general use, discontinuities are usually very low. I suspect that last night was just one of those rare occurances such as a moped sat at the junction. The high discontinuties which cause the Graph Too Late that I referred to, are ones that I generate on purpose to find problems with my coax cables or comparing tuners.

Does the retune after xx seconds option only apply if no data is received during the initial tuning - i.e. never during a recording?

I've been using the recording service since the first public beta and it has been fantastic. This is the first time I've had this problem in all that time, so if it's going to be as long before it occurs again, I'm relatively happy.

One small issue with the auto preset record search task.

When I run the EPG auto record search using a task I set up it adds a duplicate entry to my timer list for any timer entries which I already had there but had disabled.

So if a few programmes have been added by a previous search and I've moved them to red, then the red entry stays there and a new green one is added also.

I found when I used EPG Plus that it was better to mark an unwanted TV programme that a search found as 'inactive' as if I deleted it, the next search I ran would just add it back in. By marking it as inactive I'd like to say to recording service 'I know it's there but I don't want it, so don't add it any more!'.

Thanks.

Just a small thing - it looks like the background for the calendar drop-downs on the EPG search page is transparent when it might benefit from a solid colour. The calendars overlay the existing content and make it hard to read.

Tested in IE6 and Firefox 3 with same result - screenshot attached.

Additionally, overnight the EPG search lost around 6 of my presets, but as yet I don't know why. Will keep testing and let you know if it happens again, and if I work out why.

Hi all,

I kindly ask Lars (or other) a little support on configuration issue.

I'd like to configure a server on LAN with Skystar 2 (DVB-S) and Hauppauge WinTV Nova T (DVB-T)

dedicated to streaming and centralized recording.

Can I use DVBServer and DVB Recording Service or they will conflict for the cards ?

If no, how I can configure my system to have a unique server for streaming and recording ?

Have you planned a DVBService version with streaming client capability like DVBViewer ?

Thanks a lot.

You can use DVBServer and Recording Service at the same time. If they have the same hardware configuration (especially the order of the devices in the list is important) then this can work.

But there are disadvantages: one device can only be used by one application at a time. So if you are recording with dvbservice on your skystar 2 it's not possible to watch anything, because DVBServer can't access the card. It's even worse: if you are watching something, the recording service can't access the skystar 2 and won't be able to record => recording fails.

There is no perfect solution to this problem, yet... at some day the dvbserver and recording service will "unite", but there is still a lot of work to do, until that day arrives...

Link to comment

Moses, thanks a lot for the answer.

Just a little doubt about functionality: I understand the disadvantages of this configuration (dvbserver & dvbservice on the same server) and I think that I can deal with them because I'm not an intensive recorder.

But do you confirm that at the end of recording or at the end of streaming the corrisponding program (dvbservice or dvbserver) will release tha card for another use ?

And, just for speak, is not possibile to enhance dvbservice to be a dvbserver client like the DVBViewer itself ?

Thanks again and keep up the good work!

Link to comment

Yes, dvbserver and recording service will release the hardware, if they don't need it anymore, so that they can be used by another application.

hello

I don´t not know if I should take this here or in the request part, It would be nice to have a public interface to the RecService like COM.

Some commands that would be desirable:

- Add schedule / task

- Remove the schedule / task

- List schedules / task

- Start Record (can probably use Add schedules for this)

- Stop record (can probably use Remove schedules for this)

Events that would be desirable

- Record start. (with some type of id)

- Record Stop (with some type of id)

- Schedule Add / remove

I currently have 2 Terratec 2400i DT cards (giving 4 DVB-T tuners) and this evening I had 4 simultaneous recordings. Three of the tuners started fine but the fourth one never tuned. It appears that the recording service keeps retrying to tune but is un-sucessful. In the end I deleted the timer and recreated it, and the recording proceeded as normal.

I just checked and my retune timer was set to 1 second. Maybe I need to increase this in case there isn't sufficient time given for the card to lock.

This is not a bug report - more of a question.

I haven't been able to find a way to record single episodes of programs that are re-broadcast. e.g. BBC Entertainment often broadcasts a program 4 -6 times over two days. The program name is the always same, but the program title may different (e.g. containing the episode name and part if it is a multipart title). If I set-up a simple rule in recording service or epg plus I get all episodes including the repeats.

Hopefully my explanation is clear.

Is it possible to automatically record just once each individual episode?

As far as i know there is no way to prevent DVBViewer from recording one Episodes multiple times.
Link to comment

If you can tell by the time the episode is broadcasted if it's the first time or not, you can use that as restriction (for example most things are broadcasted in "prime time" for the first time and then are repeated during the following night and day in very uncommon timeframes).

Sorry, user error. I have to open 80 and 8080 port from zyxel and then allow DVBVservice.exe from windows firewall.

BTW: Is there anyway to change different tuner to DVBViewer and recservice? When i try to set tuner one to DVBViewr preferred, it will also change to preferred in recservice. I think i will bought one more tunercard, and but it only for DVBViewer use.

ATM no. I'm planing on it, but I need to separate the timers.xml also in this case... unfortunatly the whole interaction is a little bit complex, they were in the begining never meant to run at the same time.

Separate .xml is ok, i use dvbv only watching and make timing from browser . But what happens EPG+ recordings?

Oh, now i read that upcoming features. Autosearch is coming. ;)

I have to thank you, exelent job.
