Interface on server for Popcorn Hour client.

Recommended Posts

Hello.

I would like the option to have an interface for the media extender Popcorn Hour .

At the moment there is an option to have the GBPVR as a streaming server but I would like to use the much more superior DVBViewer server instead :) .

A link to the GBPVR server plugin

http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=249...mp;postcount=65

An short explanation of the feature request and how it works using the GBPVR option:

The application itself is not installed on the Popcorn hour (client) but rather as a SSDP service on the server, this is recognised by the Popcorn hour as a media server and then lets the user stream live tv from the server directly to the client.

The popcorn hour can recive direct *.ts streams so there is no need to demux or re-encode the stream sent to the popcorn client.

It's a lot more than only a SSDP response.

From the developer side I can say, the chances this will be implemented are nearly zero.

If only the option to stream directly to the popcorn and change channels would be sufficent. It is only the streaming of live tv that I would like to have.

Well maybe someone with this hardware can program and write a DVBViewer plugin. ´

When writing something for a special hardware you need to have it, otherwise you won't get to work properly.

Would it be possible to stream to the popcorn hour using netstream? Anyone have a suggestion on how I could open the netstream ?

I know that in the popcorn hour you need to make a *.html file with only this information in it to be able to open a network stream:

<a href="http://192.168.1.66:2345" VOD>

I am going to try this when I get home and post the results. Off course I cannot change channels from the client.

I have now tried this.

I set the netstream plugin on "Unicast" and select the ps's IP, the port 2345.

When I open the stream on the Popcorn I will only get picture and sound if I choose "Stream whole transponder" And then I only seem to get the first channel on that transponder, It does not seem possible to chosse what stream I want to view.

Also when I view "Connected clients" in the information tab, I see the popcorn hours IP but the port number is 51755 ? Isn't it supposed to be 2345?

I have also activated autodiscovery on port 600, what function has this?

I am using netstreaming plugin 1.4.0.0

This would be so awesome feature IF someone could make it work. I've been considering buying Popcorn Hour A100 but having doubts that it can show live TV properly. I'm not a (real) programmer so i cant make the plugin myself :) Someone HELP

The simplest way for the liveTV option would be a small webserver with http interface.

On the Pocporn Hour a html page with TV guide will be displayed. Then you can choose a channel and get the playlist for PH from webserver.

<a href="http://IP/play.php?channel=...." vod="playlist">Play</a>

playlist format:

channel name|0|0|http://ip:port|

MTPcenter with VDR as basis works in this way.

Maybe the DVBViewer webinterface could be adapted for PH.

Hi,

I have had success streaming to Popcorn with Netstreaming plugin and putting a html-file in Pocorn with code:

  <a href="http://IPADRESS_TO_DVBVIEWER:2345" vod>DVBViewer</a>

This works for DVB-T and DVB-C but i am not able to get sound working with DVB-IPTV.

It doesn´t matter if it´s AC3 nor Mpeg audio, still no sound only video.

I´m using beta 3.9.3.45.

Any Ideas?

Answering my own question here:

If you uncheck everything in netstreaming-plugin dialogbox "stream control" you will get both sound and video streamed to popcorn hour.

It seems that popcorn was a little pickier with IPTV streams or DVBViewer sending IPTV-PIDS in a different way than DVB-T and DVB-C.

Still having problems with streaming DVB subtitles though (it doesnt work in VLC either)

Setting the time DVBViewer pauses in a channelswitch a little higher and now, usually, poppy will not stall but do the channelswitch!

I find DVBViewer uses a lot of cpu 'just streaming', some 25-40% for SD and strangely enough 10% for HD. What is your observation?

Interesting thread. ;)

Also ran this test with the html-file opened from the Poppy to access a running DVBViewer (netcast plugin) on the network . Works nicely.

Am about to kick my PC out of my little cinema and put it somewhere else if ...

... Switching channels is working.

... HD is working too.

I understand from what you [Pastimer] said, that you can switch channels. If so, how did you get this working?

Tried also tuning an HD-Channel (Anixe), but did not get anything onto the screen. Is there some special setting required to get HD working?

I switch channels through the webserver, so not with a remote pointed at poppy:)

With slower settings it works better, still fast enough.

Anixe HD i had no problem except it's DTS audio and i have no external receiver for that..(yet).

You should set the streamplugin NOT to send the whole transponder, thats important.

I'm satisfied as it is. Can only get better in the future. ;)

I agree. It's just awesome how nicely the pch decodes the h264 and how smooth it looks on TV (watching Roland Garros live on Eurosport HD right now) ;)

I'm in contact with someone connected to the manufacturer (or distributor in germany - not quite sure). With luck I might get a test machine so I can integrate the popcorn hour better into the DVBViewer project (dvbserver/recording service/DVBViewer). ;) We'll see :)

is there any other media center extender or network player that can stream the DVBViewer?

popcornhour looks very good but what others are there out there that can work with the viewer and with vista media center?

h**p://www.popcornhour.com/onlinestore/

It's not expensive as you can see. Including VAT and transport less than 200 euros. Bought locally it's 249.

I have no problem basically as it is. PH has some limitations independent of DVBViewer.

I'm using dvbserver --> DVBViewer ---> streamplugin ---> PH.

The dvbserver has the devices defined and refers to a copy of DVBViewer. DVBViewer is the installed version on the same machine and only has unicast devices refering the dvbserver.

The streaming plugin off course has a different port then the dvbserver port!

I've chosen this setup to still be able to view tv on different computers around the house.

It seems that PH is a little sensitive when switching channels. One of the problems is switching channels while staying on the same transponder. A problem that also can be observed with Videolan (VLC). I've postes a feature request on this recently.

I operate DVBViewer with the webserver plugin, which is very good, but still can be enhanced a lot.

Oh the next time I get paid for working for the DVBViewer I buy it. Oh wait, I don't get money for it, well too bad.

And if you think I'm going to pay my private money for something just to make you happy, think a lot more than only twice!

As I stated I am willing work on any hardware if it seems promising but for sure I never will buy one just for this reason.

Well if you do not realy want one, maybe it's a good idea to make a flawless connection to VLC then, because i'm sure that can be improved a lot and it wont cost you anything.

By the way; i wouldn't mind you getting payed for your work for DVBViewer. As i have said a lot more than twice: DVBViewer is too cheap for what it offers. I think most DVBViewer enthousiast would be willing to pay the current price of DVBViewer anually.

But the developers don't want that because it would mean they really had to look into boring problems in stead of doing just as they like.

Ahhh, cHarOn showed up. This is good news, also for you Lars, and finally for us - hopfully - too. ;)

I've already read a lot of good things from cHarOn in the two forums he is coming from. Is kind of your peer over there.#

I guess, the goal for both, DVBViewer and Popcorn Hour, is to grow sales. Smells like a good combination. ;)

With the help of Derrick there is a update of the netstreaming plugin especially for popcorn hour users (see betasection of membersarea).

It changes the following:

  • switching channels on the same transponder works.

  • AC3 audio tracks work.
The DVB-AC3 Elementary stream is translated to an ATSC-AC3 Elementary stream in the PMT.
To activate it go to the options dialog of the plugin and check "Patch AC3 for Popcorn hour" on the "Stream Control" page. You have to uncheck "Stream whole Transponder", "Teletext" and "Subtitles".
Attention: This setting is only intended for the Popcornhour Client don't use it with the DVBViewer as client!

  • ITV HD: The wrongly marked h.264 Video Elementary stream in the PMT is corrected to a valid type.
Note: the Service ID for this channel must be set to the correct value (10510)! This should be normally the case, but some may have set it to 0 to keep autoupdate from happening. The videotype of the channel must be set to H.264 (see channeleditor in the DVBViewer).

Lars_MQ could you recommend a network player thats extends vista media centre and also streams DVBViewer please?

i have been reading about popcornhour player but it only has media connect to enable it to stream the files from wmp.

i am looking for one to have the same interface as media centre .

maybe im a bit fussy because i see the popcornhour has a simalar interface as media center but not just quite.

how do you rate whats on offer at mo from linksys ,d link and popcornhour?

..oops, this announcement has totally slipped my attention :) I thought it was still in the pipe due to server problems and the resulting download limitations. But I'm glad that popi_users will be able to enjoy all available HD_streams from the European cup on their big screens :(

One additional improvement is that you can zap now with the popi or the vlc without problems :glare:

Hello guys!

First I would like to thank Lars for improvements he is making for the Popcorn users!

I have a problem when streaming from DVBViewer to Popcorn. After some time the sound gets corrupt and all I can hear from my speakers is terrible cracking.

I have my popcorn connected through SPDIF coax audio to my receiver.

This problem doesn't occur when watching movies from my computer HDD (also through the network).

Did anybody experience such problems?

Occasionally I've experienced sound problems too. Mostly it could be solved by switching audio on the RC. Apparently that leads to a resync between video and audio. There's nothing much the DVBViewer can do to avoid this cos the TS is just retransmitted. It has to be solved by Syabas.

btw.

though @Lars deserves the honours, he can't answer these questions cos he hasn't got a popi (yet) :)

It works very good too, at least the intertransponder channelchange. Also seems to connect faster?

Ahhh, nice. Something to try out over the weekend. :D

Just one little thing: Looks like I don't see the woods for the trees. How can I now zap with the Poppi?

Pastimer said earlier in this thread, that the DVBViewer-Webserver is to be used and that it does not [yet] work with the Remote Control on the Poppi itself. I understand this as that you have to open up an html-page or URL on the Poppi, which redirects you to the DVBViewer-Webserver. Right?

Or is it now possible to have the Poppi send signals to the DVBViewer (running netcast) so that channels are switched? This would be awesome.

Regards,

So. The new netcast filter works perfect with the Popcorn.

Then I successfully installed the new beta of the Web-Server for the DVBViewer. Works nice from PC to PC.

But then I tried to get the Popcorn to access the DVBViewer-Webserver to circumvent the no-zap limitation of the Popcorn.

Used the same simple method as pastimer explained, which is to just add the URL for the DVBViewer-Webserver (without "vod") into a plain html-file and then click the URL with the Popcorn. The popcorn got hung while loading. Have to dig into this during the weekend.

No, i havent tried the webserver on poppy. I use a PDA with a wireless ethernet connection for that! That way i can change channels without changing anything on the PH itself.

..that seems a good solution  At least better than waiting for the poppi to turn into a DVBViewer client. Maybe I've misjudged the situation. The poppi users seem to be only interested in converting their HD_video_files (apparently obtained from suspect sources) without having a real plan how to do it

I'll guess most of them have no idea what would really be possible with such a machine with the right software in the right places  playing only files over a lan is not what I exspect of such a machine.
