To Switch between 'Provider' & 'Frequency'

It would be very useful to have a facility to switch between 'Provider' & 'Frequency' in the Channel list.

At the moment, you can only do this when you perform a scan and your option at that time is then set - you can't change it later.

A simple 'right-click' option in the Channel list window, giving the options "List by Provider" or "List by Frequency" would be great.

A simple 'right-click' option...

If you have a look at the Edit Tab, you can see, that the provider is not stored. It may appear as a folder name, but is not part of the channel properties.

Including it, would be quite expensive... the whole data format must be changed, a lot of compatibility problems in respect of former versions must be handled (concerning channels.dat, INI export/import, plugins... a lot of the old stuff wouldn't work anymore). The right click option is simple :jump: , but everything else very difficult.

..imho it's still a matter that deserves reconsideration. Maybe not now but in a later version :jump:

Maybe... when Christian started to program the DVBViewer, he didn't foresee what was coming. So some of the data structures are simply not flexible enough for enhancements, that's the problem.

I think, sooner or later the whole DVBViewer must be redesigned. But that will take time... a whole lot of time.

Maybe we find in next future other simple ways to sort channels by other programms

Yes, but if there is no provider property, it can't be exported or imported. That will not solve it.

It's not that much a problem with sorting but with the information that is stored for each service.

If you want to have a flat space for all services on all satellites you have to be sure, that each service is unique.

Taking only the information provided in the PSI will inevitably result in collisions (e.g. progdvb)

ps.

On dth satellites like astra and hotbird it's not an issue.

Keeping the concept having different roots for different satellites will make things much easier

Fair comment by all concerned - it look like a real problem.

Another option would be a 'Channel Properties' entry in the menu shown when right-clicking on the "picture" (for want of a better description) :jump:

A small window would appear giving all information re the currently displayed transmission - ie Satellite / Provider / Channel Name / Freq / Pol / SR & all PIDS etc

Even better, (considering that the aforesaid pop-up menu is getting very long), is to have a seperate 'Channel Properties' Icon in the top toolbar - 1 mouse click and all is revealed ! - there's plenty of room for it

This is no match for selectable frequency/provider listings, but it would be a big step forward and very useful.

TBH, I'm really suprised that provider's information is not stored together the TP's general paramenters when a scan is performed.
