TransEdit

So, here's another add-on for the DVBViewer, for all you DVBViewer-freaks out there, right away from my laboratory (w00t)

It's called TransEdit, can be found in the download area of the Service Center and does the following:

- Edit transponderlists: Transponderlists contain the frequency, polarisation and symbolrate for each transponder of a satellite position, enabling the DVBViewer to perform fast and accurate scanning. The lists are stored as INI files in the DVBViewer\Transponders folder.

Whenever a new transponder appears at a satellite position, or a transponder is switched off, the list should be updated in order to get fast and complete scan results. You may edit the list with a text editor. However, that's a hard job - the entries have to be sorted in a certain manner. And that's where TransEdit comes in. It provides a convenient way to add or modify list entries.

- Scan transponders or whole satellites: I've spent the last week with optimising the DVBViewer scanner engine... removed some bugs and speeded it up considerably. 59 transponders on Astra 19° East are now scanned within 3 minutes, resulting in approximately 960 found channels. The next DVBViewer version will also contain this new scanner engine, of course.

And there are some more features, added by Christian:

- The language of the audio broadcast is detected and displayed (only if the channel provides this information, of course, but lots of them do).

- Channels with AC3 audio broadcasts are detected.

Furthermore, TransEdit provides a convenient way to scan single transponders, just by double-clicking them (I was a bit tired of entering the frequencies in the DVBViewer's channellist window again and again...)

- View the found channels: TransEdit contains a *very* simple viewer for viewing the found channels (or listening to them). Yes, you can watch TV with that prog! Cannot be compared with the DVBViewer, of course...

- Sort and filter the found channels in different ways: Just have a try...

- Export the found channels: A selection or all of them, right away to the DVBViewer's Channels.dat file, or as an INI file.

Have a look at the attached picture for an overview... and then download and enjoy!

Griga

P.S. Read the ReadMe to get most of it - I've provided an English and a German file.

P.P.S: Just as I see that he's reading this thread: Thanks to Derrick for inspiration, beta-testing and helpful hints!

I've just updated TransEdit in the Service Center - ready for download! :bounce:

The new features of version 1.5:

- Enhanced channel detection capabilities - finds even more channels now. For some unknown reason there are still a few channels on some strange satellite positions, that are not detected (as Derrick reported), but TransEdit gets almost all of them now.

- Optionally scans for data services and TV channels without audio (mostly data services with a promo picture).

- Additional filter options for the found channels

- Automatic transponderlist update by scanning the NIT (Network Information Table), as suggested by Crypto (see above). Works quite well on some satellite positions, but not on all. It depends on the providers...

- Optionally deletes "dead" transponders from the list, while scanning.

-- Automatically creates transponder descriptions out of the provider names, as suggested by Crypto.

- Adds the scan date to the transponder description, if desired (one of Derrick's feature requests :D ).

- Provides a Settings Window, that gives more control on the scanning process

- Remembers all settings on relaunch - the size and position of all windows, the column widths, the Filter Menu settings, and more.

- The Preview Function is able to play back AC3 (with Marfi's Filter and a suitable audio decoder).

- Exports the PCR-PID (the DVBSource filter needs it for some channels).

- Some general user interface enhancements - better keyboard support and stuff like that...

OK, give it a try....

OK, folks, TransEdit is back again - version 1.7 available in the Service Center ;)

So, what is new? Not so much, since I was quite busy with programming the VRPlugin during the last weeks.

- New terms of use - I hope they are clear enough now, after the unpleasent event some weeks ago. This program version is only available for purchasers of the DVBViewer full version! Furthermore, the scan results can only be exported to DVBViewer 2.1 or later.

- Scanning speed issue with drivers 4.2.8/4.2.10 fixed. (see the discussion above) TransEdit has become faster again - even with the old driver 4.2.2.

- FEC values can be entered manually or retrieved by a NIT scan. Following a proposal from Crypto, TransEdit does not rely solely on the automatic FEC detection of the SkyStar2 anymore. May be helpful for scanning 'difficult' transponders.

- Scan Date as category option: One of Derrick's feature requests :D. Exports all channels to a category in the DVBViewer's channellist with the current date as category name.

- Detects MPEG2 video decoders that are present in the system. Choose one of them for the Preview Function in the Settings Window. The code has been stolen from Christian Hackbart, of course ;)

- Up-to-date Astra 19° East transponder list included: There were some changes in the last weeks.

...and some smaller fixes and enhancements, can't remember them at the moment. If you are not familiar with TransEdit, please read the ReadMe (English and German), it tells you everything you need to know - and enjoy one of the fastest DVB scanners on earth!

TransEdit updated to version 1.8 in the Service Center!

News:

- Better coordination when DVBViewer and TransEdit are running at the same time

Scanning with TransEdit stops any TV or radio playback in the DVBViewer and interrupts an ongoing recording. Apart from that, TransEdit and the DVBViewer can run at the same time without problems now. When exporting channels to the DVBViewer's channel list (Send to DVBViewer... in the Context Menu of the Scanner Window), the DVBViewer's channellist window is updated immediately.

- TransEdit exports the transportstream ID to the DVBViewer (important for future EPG enhancements in the DVBViewer).

- The PCR PID is displayed in the Scanner Window.

- Simplified Settings Window: I've dropped the OK and Apply Button. Changes take effect immediately.

- New option: Append Frequency to Channel Name (Export):

If this checkbox is ticked, TransEdit automatically appends the frequency to the channel name when exporting the scan results. This is useful in case of feeds (channels intended for internal transmissions, not for public broadcast), since they often carry no unique names.

That' all... up to now.

TransEdit 2.0 is available in the Service Center.

Changes:

- Accelerated channel search, 72 Astra 19°E transponders in less than 3 minutes.

- DVBViewer Filter can be used for the Preview Function. It's important to use version 2.2.3 or later - see here.

- When the Preview Window is active, volume can be controlled with the mouse wheel. Right-clicking the window opens the property page of the source filter.

- Channels that are already present in the DVBViewer's channel list are marked. Differing channel data can be spotted and updated easily.

- The filter options are better accessible; a new options allows to hide all channels that are already present in the DVBViewer's channel list.

- Export as CSV file (for channel list rework in database applications or spreadsheets).

- English manual online and as CHM help file available.

- Better DVB-T support and detection of ATSC-like AC3 streams.

I've uploaded TransEdit version 2.0.1 to the Service Center:

- Fixed: Automatic transponder update resp. NIT scan didn't work, due to a stupid bug (sorry :) ).

I wonder why it hasn't been reported yet... nobody uses this feature?

- Fixed: The save button on the Settings tab wasn't enabled when clicking the "Always scan with FEC auto detection" checkbox.

TransEdit 2.02 is available in the Service Center.

News:

- Detection of H.264 video streams (provided that the PMT contains the expected stream ID). Appends (H.264) to the channel name, correct export to DVBViewer GE 1.4 Beta.

- Enhanced display of scan results. AC3 audio streams are marked with an boldface audio PID, H.264 video streams with an boldface video PID accordingly.

- Fix: Language detection for AC3 audio streams (that's why TransEdit displayed "ac3" in the language column. It had nothing else... :bounce: )

- Updated: Transponder list for Astra 19° East.

I'll write something more about H.264 and DVBViewer GE 1.4 Beta under "News and Announcements"...

Any plan to make it possible?

No, not at the moment.

TransEdit 2.1 is available in the Service Center

Changes:

- Enhanced: Scan speed - up to 30 seconds less for 75 Astra transponders.

This has been achieved by handling the data stream (received from the TechniSat card) in a different way. I'm not yet sure if it will work flawlessly under all conditions. It has been tested successfully with driver 4.2.2 and 4.2.8, however.

So, keep the previous version as backup and let me know if you encounter serious problems. TransEdit serves as a kind of pre-test for the coming DVBViewer GE 1.5 in this respect.

-Added: Support for running TransEdit in different (especially restricted) user accounts with different settings. This feature will be introduced with DVBViewer GE 1.5. More about it after all components/plug-ins have been updated accordingly.

TransEdit has been updatet to version 2.1.1 in the Service Center.

- Fix: Especially when scanning DVB-T, transponders where skipped if a transponder of the same provider, but from a neighbouring region had been scanned directly before (due to identical transportstream IDs, letting the scanner assume that it already processed the stuff).

The same may apply to DVB-S when scanning channels (especially feeds), that do not fully comply with the DVB standard (by using the same transportstream ID for different transponders). You won't encounter something like that on satellite positions like Astra, however.

TransEdit has been updatet to version 2.2 in the Service Center.

Added: Detection of Radiotext (RDS data) embedded in the audio data.

TransEdit 2.2 displays the Audio PID of those radio channels underlined and exports the information to DVBViewer. The next releases of DVBViewer GE (coming soon) and DVBViewer Pro will be able to display Radiotext, provided that its presence is indicated by the channel data.

RDS channels can be found on Astra 19° East, 12265 H, provided by the German ARD. They are still testing, however. Some of the channels, that are flagged accordingly still broadcast empty or no RDS data.

Please keep the previous TransEdit version as backup, since I'm not sure wether the new channel property is compatible with current DVBViewer Pro versions.

Enhanced: DiseqC handling.

Derrick has detected a nasty bug in driver 4.3.0 by connecting the SkyStar2 output to its soundcard, using CoolEdit as oscilloscope and watching the 22 khz signal (clever, isn't he?). The facts are: Whenever the SkyStar2 changes the LNB voltage, e.g. when switching from H to V or back, a DiseqC signal sent at the same time gets corrupted.

That's why TransEdit now first sets the LNB voltage, waits 100 ms and then tunes the transponder in case of a DiseqC change. I hope it will help to circumvent at least some of the known DiseqC issues of the SkyStar2 drivers.

The next DVBViewer GE release (and probably DVBViewer Pro too) will contain a similar fix.

There is a new TransEdit versions available, that is based on the original code, but has been modified and extended by Christian Hackbart.

In the members area, Beta Section you'll find TransEdit MultiCard Edition (MMC), that additionally supports Twinhan cards and BDA driver based cards/devices.

It is a full version that may used as transponderlist editor & external scanner for DVBViewer Pro.

TransEdit MMC in the common download area is a demo version, that contains DVBViewer ads. It does not save, export or update channel lists. The preview function is disabled

You may use it to test wether DVBViewer Pro supports your card / device, since it uses the same basic code.

TransEdit in the members area, Main Applications Section, is the original version provided by me. It only works with TechniSat SkyStar2/ AirStar/ CableStar cards.

Should be preferred, if you own such a card.

The manual provides more information about TransEdit.

TransEdit has been updated to version 2.3 in the members area.

News:

- Supports all devices with BDA driver.

- New tab for hardware settings

- Automatically selects the appropriate DVB hardware for scanning according to the transponderlist type (satellite, terrestrial...).

E.g., if you have a SkyStar2 and additionally a BDA device for terrestrial reception, TransEdit 2.3 will automatically use the SkyStar2 if you select a satellite transponder list, and the BDA device for a terrestrial transponder list.

- Allows selection of the preferred hardware for scanning if there are two DVB devices of the same type (e.g. 2 x satellite) connected to the PC.

- Some adjustments for the coming DVBViewer GE 1.7.

- Prevents scanning when DVBViewer Pro is running, thus avoiding conflicts since DVBViewer Pro cannot be prompted by an external tool to release a hardware.

- Fix: Selecting the source filter for Technisat cards didn't work as it should.

- Manual updated. Read it online here.

Please note: This announcement and parts of the manual do not apply to the "TransEdit MMC" version (see previous post).

Sorry folks - updated again to 2.3.1. Will be important for a clean cooperation with the coming DVBViewer GE 1.7.

A post in the German forum suggested that the distinction between two identical BDA devices was not sufficient.

Be prepared for more updates :) the whole BDA stuff is still developping quite dynamically.

Yes, the complete transponder is missing, not only XXP

OK, try version 2.3.3 from the members area :radscorpion:

- Fix: In some cases after tuning a new transponder TransEdit still got data of the previous one, thus working with the wrong PAT (applies to BDA only)

- Fix: Two identical BDA devices were not distinguished correctly yet.

If you are interested in the internals, have a look at the registry key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Tuning Spaces

that enumerates all tuning spaces that are kind of "installed" on a PC. DVB-S tuning spaces should contain a value "Input Range" that is responsible for DiseqC. If one knew which values the FireDTV driver expects for different DiseqC settings, probably a simple registry hack could do the trick.

TransEdit version 2.3.4 is available in the members area.

It contains fixes for certain BDA devices. If you encounter one of the following issues

- Single transponders are left out when scanning

- TransEdit doesn't scan on first try after booting your PC

download the new version.

Here we go again:

TransEdit 2.3.5 in the members area, main application section, contains additional fixes:

- Supports DiseqC for FireDTV/FloppyDTV DVB-S devices

...only FireDTV up to now, as far as it concerns BDA. As soon as we manage to get information about the DiseqC implementation of other vendors, DiseqC support for those devices will be added.

- FEC Auto scanning didn't work with Hauppauge Nova-S Plus.

- The High Compatibiliy Mode setting for TechniSat cards wasn't stored in the TransEdit.ini.

- New option "Stop stream while tuning" on the Settings -> Hardware Tab. Try it in case of problems.

TransEdit has been updated to version 2.4 in the members area.

Changes:

- Added: Support for Twinhan devices without BDA driver

- Fix: In DVB-C transponder lists the symbolrate could not be changed

- Fix: BDA memory leak removed (thanks to Lars, who spent some time with finding a therapy for the nasty behaviour of the MS Network Provider Filter)

- Fix: Potential problem with TechniSat Airstar (thanks to halalev, who pinpointed it by extensive testing)

- Enhanced: BDA support in general. We are getting on little by little...

TransEdit has been updated to version 2.5 in the members area.

News:

- Reorganized: Hardware detection and management, including bug fixes. More about it in the manual.

- Fix: The Preview Function tried to use the TechniSat or SkyAVC source filter for BDA devices, if selected in the Settings.

- Added: DiSEqC support for Hauppauge Nova-S Plus / SE2)

- Added: DiSEqC support for all devices with TechnoTrend BDA driver (e.g. Hauppauge Nova-S, TechnoTrend 1500).

Special thanks to JMS for arduous help an testing. Without him I wouldn't have made it. Have a look at his software projects, especially if you own a Hauppauge card: http://www.psimarron.net/

- Added: DiSEqC support for Terratec 1220-S (yet untested). Please note: The new Terratec 1200 cards with square tuner don't work with TransEdit and DVBViewer, since Terratec doesn't provide a BDA driver yet.

- Added: DiSEqC support for Twinhan DVB-S devices with BDA driver (yet untested).

- Added: Multicard support for TechniSat devices. Please note: The new driver, that can cope with two or more TechniSat devices in a PC is not available yet. So please don't try it now - wait until the driver is released.

- Several minor fixes.

Important: The DiSEqC support that has been added in version 2.5 requires a new manual hardware detection (Settings -> Hardware -> Detect Devices), if you have used older versions before.

There is a new TransEdit Test Version 2.6.0.4 available in the members area, beta section, with some considerable enhancements... but no updated manual yet. Will (hopefully) be completed within the next two weeks.

Anyway, give it a try. Here are the main points:

- Lars' remarkable TS Analyzer has been integrated (before only available in the free MMC version). And not only that - it provides some powerful additional functions.

The TS Analyzer gives you a deep insight in what is broadcasted (see attached image). The right side of the Analyzer Window lists all streams that are present on a transponder, the corresponding PIDs, stream types, plus some statistics like packet count and data rate. You may use it for example to detect streams that are not supposed to be detected B) particularly feeds resp. "private" transmissions of the broadcasters.

The tree view on the left side represents the content of the broadcasted SI tables (Service Information). The Analyzer evaluates them bit by bit and translates them into a (more or less) readable structure, thus providing all available information about networks, transponders, services, bouquets, events etc.

However, making full use of it requires some DVB knowledge. The Analyzer is a "very special" tool for DVB software developers, DVB nerds, feed hunters and people who just want to know what's going on behind the scenes, beyond consuming TV and radio. It provides many features of the famous TSReader, with one major difference: You don't have to pay $ 100.- for it. As a DVBViewer customer you get it for free.

So, after having opened the Analyzer Window by selecting a transponder and clicking "Analyze", what can you do with it?

- Use the search input field to find items like "DVB-S2" in the SI tables. Usually the NIT (Network Information Table) provides information about DVB-S2 transponders, particularly on Astra 19° East and 28° East.

- "Save as XML" saves the selected tree node and all its children, grandchildren etc. as XML file (a text representation of tree structures). Or copy it as XML directly to the Windows clipboard. You'll find the according command (among some others) in the tree view's context menu.

But where does the XML file go? Wherever you want. See Settings -> Analyzer -> Output Directory. The filename is created automatically.

- Select a service, PMT or ES (Elementary Stream) node in the PAT section and click "Preview". TransEdit will play the corresponding stream(s) in the Preview Window, if possible, including H.264 (decoder selection in Settings -> Preview).

- Rightclick a service node. Choose "Select PIDs" in the context menu, in order to let TransEdit mark all PIDs resp. streams belonging to the service in the PID list on the right.

- After having selected a couple of streams on the right (by using the method described above, or manually - multi-selection is suppported), you may record the stuff altogether as TS. Just click the "Start Recording" button.

- Doubleclick a PID resp. stream on the right, in order to let the Analyzer search and display the according entry in the SI tables. If there isn't any, you have detected a "hidden" stream. Congratulations. :bye:

That are some of the possibilities... too much to explain everything in detail here. We'll come back to it later in the manual. Or ask, if you can't wait...

Some other TransEdit enhacements outside the Analyzer:

- Added: Multi-selection of transponders in the main window, for scanning a specific selection (-> "Scan Selected").

- Added: Cut, Copy and Paste functions in the main window. You may use them to transfer transponders from one list to another. E.g. from a Hotbird to an Astra transponder list. And then post here and ask why scanning them together doesn't work. :) Well, please don't do it...

- Added: Possibility to set the modulation and modulation type for a transponder. That's for future handling of DVB-S2 cards (Christian is already busy with some prototypes). TransEdit does it autmatically when you use the "Update" function to update a transponder list. If there are any DVB-S2 transponders listed in the Network Information Tables (NIT), TransEdit displays them in blue.

- Added: If the Settings -> Scanner 1 -> "Mark transponders without signal/PAT with [X]" checkbox is ticked, TransEdit inserts "[X]" in the transponder description, if the scan delivers no results. Another option allows to skip those transponders on a full scan ("Scann All"). Or you may delete them altogether (Edit -> Delete [X]-marked).

- Added: Some buttons in the Scanner Window for better accessibility of important functions.

... and some more things, including several bug fixes. But now better let me start writing the manual. The above was only for practice. :)

TransEdit 3.0 is available in the members area, main section - no more beta :D

Changes since the last test/beta version (see above):

- Added: Hex Viewer in the Analyzer Window. More about it here.

- Added: Undo/Reload function in the Main Window.

- Added: Support for DVB-S2 cards.

- Added: TransEdit displays the used DVB device in the title bar of the Scanner-, Analyzer- and Preview Window.

- Added: ReadMe file.

- Added: Up-to-date transponder lists for Astra 19° East, Astra 28° East, Hotbird 13° East, based on a TransEdit NIT scan.

- Updated: German and English manual.

...plus several bug fixes, minor enhancements and refinements

A word about the integrated TS Analyzer, that kept me busy the whole summer through, not included the time that Lars had already spent with it before. As already mentioned, it gives you a deep insight in what is broadcasted on a DVB transponder - much more than TV and radio. Maybe you will wonder why and wherefore it is needed.

Well, first of all it's a development tool for ourselves, :bounce: very helpful to clarify things, particularly if they don't work as expected.

Secondly, it's a source of information for all who are interested in DVB internals. If you are about to take your first steps into this very technical world, you may find it helpful to read the introduction in the TransEdit manual.

And last not least, if you're living somewhere "far out" (from our point of view :bounce: ), and you're receiving channels we can't receive, and it doesn't work somehow, we can ask you to perform an analysis, export the result and send it to us, enabling us to check what the hell is going on there.

So, altogether, the TS Analyzer's purpose is to make DVBViewer better, though its output may not appear very exciting to you - anyway, give it a try, flood your PC with DVB data, and receive an impression of what is going on behind the scenes... ;)

TransEdit has been uptdated to version 3.0.1 in the Members Area. The usual touch ups after major changes...

- Fix: Settings -> Hardware -> Retune Attempts (in case the scanner gets no data) didn't work correctly.

- Fix: TransEdit didn't report the occupied DVB devices correctly, which could cause collisions if DVBViewer was running at the same time.

- Added: DiSEqC for Pinnacle PCTV Sat HDTV Pro USB. Whether it works with other Pinnacle DVB-S devices it not known yet.

TransEdit has been uptdated to version 3.0.2 in the Members Area, with a couple of minor fixes and changes:

- Fix: The Scanner wasn't able to read all channel names from the SDT of NileSat and one Hotbird transponder (12322 H)

- Improved: If necessary (and possible), the scanner receives and evaluates more PMT PIDs simultaneously than before, thus increasing the scanning speed a bit.

- Fix: The Analyzer sometimes identified "hidden" audio / video streams without PMT entry as PCR streams, depending on what it detected first.

- Fix: The Analyzer didn't display the StreamContent value of Component Descriptors

- Fix: Transponder list names like "19°_Astra" yielded an invalid XML identifier, since the first character must not be a digit. Solved by a preceding underscore character.

- Added: Additional column in the Analyzer's PID list, displaying the number of missing data packets for each stream (e.g. due to bad reception).

Please note: The new column will probably mess up your column / window width settings a bit, thus requiring re-adjustment. In contrast to the DVBViewer Filter "missing packets" does not add up discontinuities (= gaps in the data stream), but the number of missing packets for each gap.

- Changed: If all PIDs in the PID list are selected, the Analyzer's recorder switches its internal filter off, thus recording all streams, even those that are not present when the recording starts.

- Changed: The Analyzer accepts streams that are (wrongly) flagged as MPEG1 video as input for the Preview function.

TransEdit has been uptdated to version 3.0.4 in the Members Area:

- New: Checkbox Settings -> Hardware -> DVB-S2 Device. Please note: In most cases TransEdit is not able to detect whether a device is capable of receiving DVB-S2 transponders or not, since the BDA interface doesn't provide this information. However, TransEdit needs a identification marking in order to select the appropriate device for scanning. If this checkmark is missing or if no DVB-S2 device is present, the attempt to scan a DVB-S2 transponder causes an error message, or TransEdit skips the DVB-S2 transponders in case of a selection containing a S/S2 mixture.

With other words, TransEdit needs your assistance. If you own a DVB-S2 device, please tick that box.

- New: Checkbox Settings -> Scanner 1 -> Exclude channels from EPG (export). More about it in the manual.

- New: Checkbox Settings -> Analyzer -> Accept packets with Error_Indicator. More about it in the manual.

- Fix: Hauppauge WinTV-Nova-T SE USB Stick could only be initialzied right after detecting it, not next time when TransEdit was launched.

- Fix: KNC DVB-S/DVB S2 devices with BDA driver 1.7.0.4 and later weren't detected as KNC, preventing DiSEqC and DVB-S2 from working correctly.

- New: Support for Terratec Cinergy T USB XE-Stick with BDA driver (thanks to TerraTec). Please note: Due to the low data rate, this USB 1.1 stick can't receive a whole transponder, only one channel at a time. So the Analyzer won't work. Scanning does.

- New: The Analyzer Window displays the signal quality.

- Changed: Channels are regarded aus TV/Radio channels, if they are flagged as Digital Television/Radio Services in the SDT, even if they temporarily broadcast no video/audio streams (fix for British DVB-T). Previously those channels where classified as data channels and possibly filtered out.

- Fix: Data streams on Astra 19° E, 11973 V (MTV, Viva) were mistaken as ATSC AC3 audio streams.

- Several minor fixes

- Manual updated

TransEdit has been uptdated to version 3.0.5 in the Members Area (just a small update):

- Added: Info -> Configuration Folder. Opens an explorer window that shows the content of the folder where the actually used TransEdit.ini is located (and the transponders folder, that contains the transponder list files, if TransEdit is used with DVBViewer GE).

- Added: Auto detection of DVB-S2 capabilities for some more devices (SkyStar HD, Pinnacle USB, TechnoTrend 3200) when performing Settings -> Hardware -> Detect Devices.

If you have a DVB-S2 device that is not automatically detected as DVB-S2 capable in this way (see Settings -> Hardware), please attach your TransEdit.ini here. It will enable me to add auto-detection for your device.

- Added: The scanner should now be able to detect AAC audio streams (Advanced Audio Coding). Untested - I couldn't find AAC streams on Astra / Hotbird. Someone else will have to try. Please note: DVBViewer doesn't support AAC TV/Radio playback yet, so it is useless to export these channels.

Furthermore I made some preparations for playing AAC audio in the Preview Window. However, it is still *very* experimental and requires a new DVBViewer Filter version (not yet available). A TSPlayer test version already plays *some* TS samples with AAC content here (only with the MainConcept AAC Decoder up to now). We'll come back to it later :bye:

@Bobben:

the bitrates seems to be very slow to update

The analyzer displays the average bitrate since the last restart. I will think about your suggestions... however, you can pre-view the channel in question and, by right-clicking the Preview Window, open the DVBViewer Filter property page. It shows the video bitrate as moving average.

I did not get DVB-S2 to work with the latest beta

Should be fixed now. It was just an experimental version...

TransEdit has been uptdated to version 3.0.6 in the Members Area:

- Fix: Preview didn't work correctly in case of H.264 channels. Sorry - a bug, that has slipped in version 3.0.5.

- Added: DVB-S2 support for Hauppauge DVB S2 cards (HVR 4000).

However, we are not completely through with it. Most DVB-S2 transponders on Astra 19° East and Hotbird 13° East can be scanned with the HVR 4000, as testers reported in the German section of the forum, except Premiere HD (11914 H on Astra), for some unknown reason.

- Added: Roll-Off and Pilot Symbols as DVB-S2 transponder properties. Please note: These settings are only visible, if the DVB-S2 checkbox is ticked, and only relevant for Hauppauge DVB-S2 cards. Other DVB-S2 cards will ignore them.

- Updated: Transponder lists for Astra 19°/23°/28° and Hotbird 13° East. They contain additional DVB-S2 transponders and the new settings for the Hauppauge HVR 4000, as far as known (Astra 19° and Hotbird 13° only).

If you can receive other satellite positions with a HVR 4000, you may need to play a bit with the modulation / FEC / Roll-Off / Pilot settings in order to get DVB-S2 going. The card is quite picky about these parameters, because it isn't able to detect them automatically in DVB-S2 mode. Reports are welcome.

P.S. There is a DVBViewer GE test version 2.2.5.1 available in the members area, beta section, that supports DVB-S2 with Hauppauge cards as well. It requires an existing DVBViewer GE 2.2.5.0 installation - replace DVBViewer.exe and the transponder list files by the ones delivered with TransEdit.

TransEdit has been uptdated to version 3.0.7 in the Members Area:

- Fix: QPSK DVB-S2 transponders could not be scanned with Hauppauge DVB-S2 cards (HVR 4000, Nova S2 HD). If you own such a card, please read the notes for TransEdit 3.0.6 (see above). The same issue in DVBViewer Pro/GE will be fixed in the next release.

- Fix: The Analyzer didn't read the Video Stream Descriptor correctly and displayed wrong values.

- Fix: The Scanner didn't detect some (few) channels as encrypted.

- Updated: Transponder lists, particularly the settings that are required for Hauppauge DVB-S2 cards.

TransEdit 3.0.8 is available in the members area.

- Changed: TransEdit displays "Auto" as DVB-C modulation instead of QAM 4, which was misleading.

- Fix: TransEdit couldn't detect the file channels.dat if stored in DVBViewer\Transponders

- Changed: Additional audio tracks of a channel are displayed indented in the Scanner Window.

...which is an outcome of internal changes, that will enable future DVBViewer versions to display the audio tracks of scan results as additional hierarchy level in the channel list.

- Changed: When sorting scan results in different ways (by clicking on the column titles) a channel and its audio tracks are kept together in the original order (reason see above), except when sorting by language or audio PID. In this case it's not possible, of course.

- Changed: The filter option "Multi-Audio Channels" in the scanner window has been renamed to "Additional Audio Tracks", allowing now to hide/show all additional audio tracks of channels. If you untick this option, only the base entries are shown in the Scanner Window. Please note: The filter options affect the export function!

- Added: The audio language of channels / audio tracks is exported as separate data field named "Language" in INI and CSV files (will be used by DVBViewer later...)

- Changed: Due to the limited channel name / provider name length in the DVBViewer's channels.dat (max. 25 characters), TransEdit had to shorten names that were too long. However, it now displays the full names and exports them unshortened to INI and CSV files. With other words: "Cutting off" will not take place until the results are imported in DVBViewer.

- Changed: (H.264) is not appended to channel names anymore (most of them contain "HD" anyway), and (AC3) or (AAC) only if a channel provides different audio formats. Reason see above - the names must be kept short.

- Updated: German and English manual

TransEdit 3.1 is available in the members area:

- New: Blind scan feature. Something for experienced users. Allows to scan DVB-S/T/C networks (e.g. a satellite position) for unknown transponders with unknown parameters, including DVB-S2, if no matching (or complete) transponderlist is available. More about it in the manual.

- Added: Support for FireDTV/FloppyDTV DVB-S2 devices - not tested. Please let me know if it works.

- Fix: The NIT update scan didn't work for DVB-C.

- Fix: The Analyzer reported a wrong DVB-C symbolrate in the Cable Delivery System Descriptors of the NIT (Network Information Table).

Thanks to Moses for hints and DVB-C testing.

- Changed: The main window is no more disabled while a scan is going on (though most of its options are disabled), thus allowing you to minimize TransEdit if you want it to do its job in the background.

- Added: Possibility to enter up to three decimal places (digits after the decimal points) for DVB-T/C frequencies.

- Changed: If TransEdit finds the file ttBdaDrvApi_Dll.dll in its program directory, it will use the contained interface to send DiSEqC commands to TechnoTrend drivers (not tested - please let me know if it works!). If the DLL is not available, TransEdit will use the more limited TechnoTrend BDA interface for DISEqC, as previous versions did.

- Updated: Transponder lists for Astra 19/23/28° East, Hotbird

- Updated: Englisch and German manual.

- Enhanced: Distinction of the following states:

1) No data at all is received. The scanner marks those frequencies, provided they are already contained in a transponder list, with [X] in the transponder description, if the according option in the settings is ticked.

2) A transponder delivers data, but no PAT (Program Association Table). The scanner marks those transponders with [N] in the transponder description, if the according option in the settings is ticked, thus allowing you to detect transponders that are not supposed to be detected by normal scanners, that only look for services by examining the PAT. Please note: This kind of detection will not work with hardware PID filtering. So Settings -> Hardware -> Open whole transponder must be ticked for devices that support hardware filtering (e.g. SkyStar2, FireDTV).

3) A transponder delivers a PAT, but no PMT and no services (a kind of standby transponder, that may broadcast services in future). You will get no scan results, but the transponder will neither be marked with [X] nor with [N].

4) A transponder delivers PAT, PMTs and services (the normal case)

In case 2) and 3) it is recommendable to use the TransEdit Analyzer for a closer look at the transponder occupancy.

TransEdit 3.1.1 is available in the members area.

- Fix: Changes in the Settings -> Scanner2 input lines were not applied (however, the updown-buttons worked correctly).

- Fix: QPSK modulated DVB-S2 transponders couldn't be tuned with the new FireDTV/FloppyDTV S2 device.

- Added: Auto-detection of the FireDTV/FloppyDTV S2 as DVB-S2 capable device. Only applies to future driver versions. At the moment it is necessary to tick the Settings -> Hardware -> DVB-S2 Device checkbox manually!

Please note: The FireDTV/FloppyDTV S2 is quite new, and there are still issues. Don't untick Settings -> Hardware -> Open Whole Transponder for this device, and don't use the LNB Off Tool that is available in this forum. Both may lead to a state in which the FireDTV S2 is no more able to deliver data, unless it is unplugged from the power supply (FireWire and/or mains adapter) and re-plugged.

Update: TransEdit 3.1.2.

- Fix for Hauppauge HVR 4000: The DVB-S and DVB-T tuner cannot be used at the same time. Considered now.

- Updated: Transponder list for Astra 23° East. Some DVB-S2 symbolrates have changed.

- Work-around for the Hotbird issue: Radio channels are wrongly flagged as TV services. They should now appear as radio channels in TransEdit / DVBViewer.

- Work-around for the EchoStar / Dish Network issue: Service names are broadcasted in the wrong table. Do the following:

- Open the EchoStar transponder list with a text editor

- Insert SDTO=1 as a new line in the [sATTYPE] section. This will let TransEdit read the SDT other table instead of SDT actual (hopefully... untested. No broadcaster on the main European satellite positions does such a mess).

- Save the tweaked transponder list to the TransEdit configuration folder\Transponders (see Info Menu -> Configuration Folder).

Life could be comfortable and easy if all broadcasters would follow the DVB specs... :radscorpion:

TransEdit 3.2.0 is available in the members area:

- New: Analyze TS file (see Scan Menu). Opens a file dialog box, and after selecting a TS (Transport Stream) file the TS Analyzer Window, that lists all streams and SI tables that are contained in the file. Alternatively, you may drag and drop the file on the TransEdit Icon, the TransEdit Main Window or the Analyzer Window, if already open. More about it in the manual.

- New: Settings -> Analyzer -> High speed file analysis checkbox. If ticked, TransEdit reads and analyzes a TS file with maximum speed, otherwise with the original tempo (as if broadcasted).

- New: Basic support for DVB IPTV, which means, creating and editing transponder lists for this reception type, according to Lars' efforts in this direction. Scanning, Preview etc. is not yet possible.

- Added: Context menu with the most important edit/scan commands (right-click the list of transponders in the main window).

- Added: Support for (compatible) channellist format changes of coming DVBViewer Pro/GE versions (channel names with more than 25 characters, audio language etc.)

- Added: Support for TerraTec Cinergy S2 PCI HD cards (detection as DVB-S2 device, DiSEqC).

- Changed: The Save Button (and menu entry) in the Main Window is disabled, if the selected transponder list file is unchanged resp. already saved.

- Fix: The attempt to scroll an empty list with the mouse wheel caused an access violation.

- Fix: The controls on the right side of the main window did not change accordingly if the tuner type of a transponder list was changed.

- Fix: Updating an audio track sub-entry in the DVBViewer channellist made it a channel entry, if it was a channel entry in the TransEdit Scanner Window.

- Fix: Detection of Medion (hybrid) tuners did not work correctly.

- Fix: Two identical Hauppauge cards in a PC were detected as hybrid tuner.

- Updated: ReadMe file, English and German manual.

- Updated: Transponder lists for Astra 19°/23°/28° East, Hotbird 13° East

...plus several minor fixes and enhancements.

Please note: Use Info -> Configuration Folder in TransEdit to find the Transponders subdirectory where the updated transponder lists must be stored!

TransEdit 3.2.1 is available in the members area:

- Added: The TransEdit Analyzer accepts m2ts files (Blue Ray file format) and lists the contained SI tables, stream types etc. Drag & drop the file on the TransEdit icon, the main window or the analyzer window. The Preview only works with MPEG2, H.264 and AC3 content yet.

- Reworked: Part of the Analyzer that reads the SI tables. Works more efficiently now, consumes less memory, some minor bugs and inconsistencies fixed.

- Added: Support for the Cinergy HTC USB XS HD DVB-C tuner

- Added: DiSEqC support for AverMedia DVB-S cards. Untested - please report!

- Added: DiSEqC support for TechniSat SkyStar2 with BDA driver.

- Added: Detection of TechnoTrend TT-connect CT-3650 as hybrid tuner.

Please note: The additional hardware support (as described above) requires a new hardware detection (Settings -> Hardware -> Detect Devices).

- Fix: Loading a KingOfSat style transponder list (specifying DVB-S2 transponders with "S2") and converting it automatically to DVBViewer style didn't set the internal Modified Flag, so the Save Button remained disabled.

- Fix: The DVBViewer Configuration Folder\Transponders wasn't set as default directory in the Save As Dialog.

- Updated: Transponder lists for Astra 19°/23°/28° East, Hotbird 13° East

TransEdit 3.2.2 is available in the members area:

- Fix: A nasty bug letting the Analyzer crash particularly on PCs with Dual/QuadCore or HT-CPU.

- Fix: The TDT (Time Date Table) didn't appear in the Analyzer treeview.

TransEdit 3.2.3 is available in the members area:

- Fix: Updating a DVB-C transponder list by reading the NIT (Network Information Table) didn't work for DVB-C (bug already fixed in 3.1.0, for some odd reason reintroduced in 3.2.1, sorry).

- Added: ONID column in the Scanner Window (Original Network ID from the SDT), indicating from which DVB network a channel originates. The additional column requires a new TransEdit.ini version number, since the old column width settings are not applicable anymore. So all column widths in TransEdit are reset to their default - sorry, you have to adjust them again.

- Changed: Comparison of scan results with the DVBViewer channellist for channel recognition. The PCR PID has been replaced by the ONID as reference value. Now a matching audio PID is only obligatory for channel recognition if different audio tracks have to be distinguished.

- Fix: Stopping an ongoing scan with the Stop Button in the Scanner Window could lead to insertion of [X] or [N] marks in the transponder list descriptions (indicating no data / no PAT) due to the incomplete scan of the affected transponder.

- Added: Evaluation of AAC and Enhanced AC3 descriptors in the Analyzer.

- New: Inactive Channels command in the Scanner Window. It displays a list of channels from the DVBViewer's channellist that have not been found anymore (with other words: no matching scan results exist), thus probably being inactive. The list allows to selectively remove these entries from the channellist. Read more about it here.

- Added: TransEdit stores the orbital position of satellite channels in the DVBViewer's channellist when updating / exporting channels, thus allowing a better channel recognition and channel -> satellite position assignment. Will be supported and used by future DVBViewer versions.

- New: Checkbox Setting -> Hardware -> Use internal Network Provider filter. Only takes effect if "Use standard interface" is switched off. It replaces a Microsoft BDA component (Network Provider) by a built-in TransEdit component that works faster, uses less resources and avoids having to deal with the bugs of the MS version (thanks to Lars). Try this option if you get the "Access violation at address FFFFFFFF" error under Vista 64 Bit. It is not guaranteed that all DVB device drivers cooperate flawlessly with the replacement, however.

- Updated: English and German manual.

- Some minor fixes and enhancements

TransEdit 3.2.4 is available in the members area:

- Fix: Non-DVB-S transponderlist files (DVB-C, DVB-T...) weren't saved correctly after editing them on the left side of the main window (e.g. changing the name) and clicking apply. They mutated into strange DVB-S transponderlists.

Sorry - I had to realize that some more functions were affected by the bug described above, among them "Add" on the left side of the main window and File -> New List. They are (hopefully) all fixed now in TransEdit 3.2.5.

Before I'll explore the possibilities to integrate DiSEqC 1.1/1.2 support in TransEdit, here is another update:

TransEdit 3.2.6 is available in the members area.

- Added: Support for TechniSat SkyStar HD 2, TechniSat SkyStar USB 2 HD CI (both are Twinhan/AzureWave), Turbosight DVB-S devices, DVBWorld DVB-S2 devices, DVB-C with Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-930C.

Please note: When updating TransEdit, Settings -> Hardware -> Detect Devices must be performed to enable the special handling of these devices (particularly DiSEqC).

- Added: Support for the "Use DVB Clock" option of DVBViewer Filter 3.3 (only concerns the Preview function).

- Added: The scanner now detects EAC3 (Enhanced AC3) audio tracks, as used by French terrestrial HD broadcasts. Playback requires DVBViewer Filter 3.3.0 or later. Additionally a suitable audio decoder must be selected (see Settings -> Preview). Up to now the only known decoders that can cope with this format are the Sonic Cinemaster Audio Decoder 4.3.0 and a recent ffdshow-build.

- Enhanced: The file device (for analyzing TS files) handles PCR discontinuities.

- Changed: If Settings -> Analyzer -> High speed file analysis is switched off and the analyzed file contains a PCR (Program Clock Reference), the Preview sets the DVBViewer Filter to live mode (previously to file mode), thus providing a live playback simulation.

This may be useful to reproduce DVBViewer Filter issues that only occur on TV/Radio playback (not on file playback) by analyzing a recording. However, the file device cannot simulate the timing conditions of real live playback exactly, so it should only be regarded as a rough approach.

- Updated: Transponder lists for Astra 19/23/28° East, Hotbird 13° East. If you want to use them, please pay attention to the installation instructions.

...plus some minor fixes and enhancements.
