Technofriend
Just added the 'new' german default skin and updated it already to version V1.1. Thanx to 'Unauthorized' who made the translation of this skin. Also added a german version of the gold skin (based on the german default skin V1.1) (BTW: The mirror-homepage seems to be down. Dunno why... ) Link to comment
schmude
Hello, I have tried some of your skins. I am using 2 Monitors on my PC (TFT and CRT) under Windows XP. After positioning the DVBViewer on the right display and restarting the program, it doesn't restore the position. It is always placed on the left monitor. Using no skin leads to a correct positioning. Can you confirm this ? Ciao Stefan Link to comment
Technofriend
I have only one monitor, so I cannot try that. But I read your problem in the other thread. Unfortunately there is nothing I can do about it. Link to comment
schmude
Hello, I can't believe that there is noone but me with two monitors on the PC. You really have no idea ? I think about saving the false position in somewhere not detecting the real position on the second monitor. As far as I know, windows handles with more than one monitor. So your skin should do it also. Bye Stefan Link to comment
Guest hackbart
sorry for the late answer.. I'll take a look at it..... Tomorrow i'll have to replace my maxtor harddrive, because it died after 3 months ?!? Argh, i hate to reinstall an OS ;( Christian Link to comment

Guest hackbart
normally not the OS itself. I do some backup of the created work each day (by some pkzip+batch script). Unluckily my new maxtor harddrive crashed and i suppose my power supply is also quite buggy. Nevertheless the DVBViewer source never won't get lost... Technofriend
OffTopic: Seems I will loose my second 40gig-maxtor-drive soon. Just had experienced the first bad sector (1 year old drive).... Is one bad sector a reason for an RMA after one year??? Does anyone know??? Link to comment

Klausing
normaly one bad sector should not be a problem! NTFS can avoid this. So your pc dont use this. You can have hundreds of bad sectors on a harddisk without problems. The only problem is, if there are data and after that dies the sector. After a scandisk the system knows this bad sectors and avoid them. Some years ago it was normal that you had bad sectors on a harddisk. (The same on TFT's today. Some diodes are on every screen bad. But in few years.. you will never accept this) But i would have a look at his harddisk. Steffen Link to comment
Gioxy
...a rapid grow of bad sector normally means that the HD is ending his days ... Is one of the S.M.A.R.T. (Self Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology) monitored HD feature's... the activation of this (today a bit old) feature would help in predicting HD failures... AIDA32 is a good tool to read the HD SMART's value (and a great analisys tool for many other PC characteristic )... Cheers Gioxy Edited February 20, 2004 by Gioxy Link to comment

Technofriend
Here is the Beta of the new micro default-skin... Known issues: -help is only found when pressing the DVBViewer-logo -not much space left in the titlebar for moving the window (especially important in radiomode) If you see bugs, please tell me. Please also tell me which color of this skin you would like to see. The restrictive copyright is only temporarily. I'll give the copyrights over to Christian, when I'm ready. As you can see it's based on his default skin. Other bugs/missing features that I found I posted in the german-bug-reports: German skin-related BugReports The beta is no longer available... Griga
@Technofriend: I had a look at the Skin Homepage... would you please explain this awkward content: DVBViewer® ANTI-SPY-TUTORIAL We feel suppressed to write this: DVBViewer is a registered TRADEMARK and therefore the property of their respective owners. We are in no way affiliated with them ! (....) Here You can soon read a tutorial about HOW TO DISABLE THE SPY-TOOLS (as far as they are known) that are planned for the DVBViewer in the near future. Griga Link to comment
Technofriend
I did already explain that. There was a long discussion in connection with the autoupdate-feature and the statistical-datamining-feature... Both planned for one of the next releases.... And Michael mentioned already something like that this gives a lot of oportunities.... But shortly after the whole thread(actually two threads) were deleted..... So if I would try to explain it here the same would probably happen to this thread again.... Maybe it is already too late by writing the above. Maybe there exists a backup of the deleted threads, then YOU can read it there... There are people that don't like this kind of stuff in their software and I'm one of them. It belongs to my privacy how long I watch tv and which stations I prefer. Also I don't like programs that always want to phone home, with which intention ever. (No, I dont use XP, Real, WMP, WinUpdate, Quicktime, Gozilla, ..... Any of those.) Link to comment
Guest hackbart
erm, as i already told. The autoupdate function wont be added into the program. Furthermore it will be distributed as plugin, so no need to use. I already recognized that zone alarm is screaming while the DVBViewer is running, but this is simple. That silly tool is detecting an open port 8765. This port is used by winlirc and you can simply uncheck the "use WinLIRC remote control" feature - if you simply block the connection you are unable use your tv remote. The second feature which opens a port is the multicast - and this one is also just a plugin (so no need to install). Last but not least the information routine in the about window, which opens the DVBViewer.com/version.php for retrieving the latest version information. Christian Link to comment
Guest DAvenger
I've heard that the next version will report to your mom how much porn did you watch Link to comment
Technofriend
@DAvenger I've heard that the next version will report to your mom how much porn did you watch It is always funny, that some people simply don't or don't want to understand the meaning of the word privacy... The standard-answer of those people is always the same: 'Do you have something to hide????' And I'm tired to explain what privacy is about and good for. If you don't need it, then give me the keys to your rooms and all your passwords as well. I promise I will not steal things, but I'm very courious... really. @Hackbart -autoupdate function wont be added into the program (plugin)-uncheck the "use WinLIRC remote control" feature -second feature which opens a port is the multicast...plugin -Last but not least the information routine in the about window -and the statistical-datamining-feature I know, that you wrote all this already in the old thread(s). And I already wrote there something like this: We will see how it is finally implemented. How much sense makes an 'statistical-datamining-feature' as plugin??? Who would install it, and for what reason, and what a strange statistic comes out of these people's behavior? So we will simply see whether the autoupdate-plugin or the statistic-tool will be installed BY DEFAULT in the end... And if so, I will write a guide on how to uninstall them, if possible. @Mods If You delete this, please send a copy to Griga, because he asked for it. ONLY thats why I wrote it all again here in your forums.... Link to comment
Guest hackbart
there wont be a statistical datamining function, why should i add such a thing - especially how should i investigate tons of information i would collect. Nah, since i even dont find that much time in reading the forum - it would not make that much sense to investigate the tv favourites or whatever by the users. Christian Link to comment
Guest DAvenger
'statistical-datamining-feature' First of all I didn't follow the previous discussion regarding such thing ... mm, if it was mentioned by Michael I am sure he was just teasing you We all (his other software was also first declared "spyware" and he had to prove it's not ... you know, the American Way - first shoot then ask ) like to do that to you - paranoid people You did basically the same thing. I don't like you. Please, stop spreading misinformation ... thanks. Edited March 12, 2004 by DAvenger Link to comment
Technofriend
there wont be a statistical datamining function In the old thread it didn't sound like that. As far as I remember it was originaly smacky's idea and you and others agreed to it. paranoid people I agree and know, that I am a little bit paranoid. Happy now?! I don't like you. So in that case I don't like you eighter. Please, stop spreading misinformation Where exactly did I spread misinformation? Griga asked me to explain what I mean... And what I say on my site was the truth (basing on the informations I had) and is reffered to as the so called 'free speech'. Need I explain this terminus?? Christian is free to sue me because of what I write on my site if he thinks this is worthwhile... I sent him a copy of my site shortly before for backup... And if I remember correctly he has my realname and adress already in his customer-database. (Searchterm: same eMail-adress as Techofriend.) Also he can ask me for it and he will get it. The new information-input from Christian from today in mind I will change the text on my site very soon. But I cannot give you any warranty that you will like it afterwards... I could only use the information I had. I cannot look into the future. And if you read my site you will find out, that I also didn't try to do so... So, please read the old threads and make up your mind AFTER doing that. Oh, well you can't do that, because they were censored.... EDIT: Update complete... Edited March 12, 2004 by Technofriend Link to comment
Griga
@Technofriend: Believe me, I take care that no software violates my privacy, and if the DVBViewer would try to do it, I would be *very* aware of it. I have the *complete* DVBViewer code on my hard disk, and I know it pretty well, since I often look things up or analyze it in order to find bugs that were reported here in the forum... and I use parts of it for my plug-ins/add-ons. So I can witness that the DVBViewer does *not* contain anything that violates someone's private sphere - it never did. OK, if you believe in rubbish like that, it's up to you - your privacy. But if you provide DVBViewer skins for download and additionally use the site for publishing your paranoid speculations as a matter of fact, that's another thing. I'm sure you know that something like that is forbidden by German law. Up to now I regarded your presence in the forum as something helpful and valuable. I saw you as one of the members who contribute in a positive way instead of being only demanding or even destructive. That's why I couldn't believe what I read on your site - at first I thought it was a (bad) joke - and that's why I asked. Unfortunately you made it very clear now that it's your dead earnest. Doesn't make me feel good... Griga Link to comment
