Blu-Ray player support

Hi! I love your software because is almost everithing a HTPC needs. However it has some minuses that I think could be solved. First of them is the lack of a Blu-Ray/HD-DVD player. It supports HD formats like mkv with multiple sound tracks and subtitles but it doesn't support the standard format of HD movie support. Second, I need to specify that I use Hauppauge HVR4000 and as you know is a multiple tuner. Unfortunately the last version doesnt allow to record a programe from DVB-T and watch one on DVB-S. Hardware not available... Switching between tuners is ok now but it doesn't allow simultaneus use of them. Third: The Hauppauge USB CI isn't detected anymore, therefore it doesn't work anymore. I know, I sow you said the external CI is experimental but this does't allow to see programs I pay. Fourth: Everybody knows analog transmisions will end in 2012 but they still exist. Maybe you can add support for analogue tunners as a separate module.

Thank you,

Angel

The HVR4000 has a hybrid tuner and not a multi tuner. So the card only support one format at the time.

There will be no support for analogue tuners.

What has changed DVBViewer version driver version?

and support.zip pleas.

Concerning Blu-Ray, here is a FAQ dealing with what is currently possible (it is only in German currently).

What won't be possible in the near future (or most likely never):

  • Playback of AACS/BD+ scrambled media natively
  • BD menus and interactive stuff (BD-J)

So what will be possible is playback of m2ts files (audio and video for the time being) and BD playlists.

No, you're not right. HVR4000 is a multituner on a single board. It has different tuners for DVB-T and DVB-S. That's why in an earlier version of DVBViewer recording a programme from DVB-S and watching DVB-T was possible.

There will be no support for analogue tuners.

OK, I just asked.

Ok, I will post support.zip as soon as possible.

As per Blu-ray support, too bad that will not be available. Maybe you could make somehow to load another program like PowerDVD or Arcsoft Total Media when needed to watch Blu-Ray.

I hope that DVBViewer will become someday the most integrated Mediacenter on the market.

Thank you

I have no HVR4000. But all information i find says that it is a hybrid tuner

Sure? wich version?

Ther is a poroblem with chaging hybrid tuner wich is fixt in the Beta.

Hybrid Tuner Support (HVR & Co) does work now. Please delete your hardware.xml in the userdata folder, so the DVBViewer does a new hardware scan.

AFAIK the analogue and digital tuners are separate units and can probably be used at the same time, but the digital part is a DVB-S/T hybrid tuner. Search the web and you will see...

Hi Griga! I do not have to look on the web. I have this board and I know better. It has 2 tuners. One is analogue/DVB-T and the second is DVB-S. The first tuner is normal to share the same unit because they use the same frequecies as per DVB-S, this is another story. That's why you can use this tuner simultaneously on DVB-T and DVB-S.

http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/site/products/data_hvr4000.html

Look at the picture of the board: the first 2 connectors are for radio and terestrial TV (analogue and DVB-T) and the third is for DVB-S. the firs two is clearly connected to the first tuner module and the second is connected to another RF module.

Trust me, it can record from DVB-T and watch/record from DVB-S simultaneously even in PowerCinema.

And BTW, WINTV NOVA-HD-S2 is the same card which has not components for terestrial reception :-)

HVR-4000 has a FMD1216ME which is indeed only hybrid for DVB-T and analog. DVB-S is IMHO a separate Conexant tuner for DVB-S just like the one on the NOVA-S2-HD.

-The product information doesn't say anything about the possibility to receive DVB-S and DVB-T at the same time. It clearly states that the WinTV-HVR-4000 is a "hybrid video recorder". If I've overlooked something, please quote it.

- Some time ago, DVBViewer didn't handle the HVR 4000 as digital hybrid device. So in theory it would have been possible to use both tuners at the same time. But all we got were user reports saying that they couldn't switch directly from DVB-S to DVB-T, due to overlapping usage of the DVB-S/T tuners on channel switching. This issue has been fixed by handling the card as a hybrid device on the software level.

- I've searched the web, and what found was this - confirmig that the DVB-S and DVB-T tuners can't be used at the same time:

So you are actually the first one stating something different. If you want to try (and prove) that it would work in DVBViewer, if the software would allow it, do the following:

1) Download TransEdit 3.2.2 form the members area and install it according to the ReadMe.

2) Launch TransEdit (launching it for the first time triggers the hardware detection).

3) Select Info -> Configuration folder. Close TransEdit.

4) Open the file TransEdit.ini from the configuration folder with a text editor (Notepad). Search the [hardware] section. There are two blocks of entries for your HVR 4000, one for the DVB-S and one for the DVB-T tuner. You will see that TransEdit assigns the same device number to both tuners, e.g. in the following way:

[Hardware]

......

DeviceNr.0=0

.....

DeviceNr.1=0

The identical device numbers let TransEdit handle the DVB-S and DVB-T tuner as hybrid, that can not be used at the same time.

5) Change the second DeviceNr e.g. to

DeviceNr.1=1

and store the modified TransEdit.ini, thus switching the hybrid handling off.

6) Re-launch TransEdit. Make sure that all other devices except the HVR 4000 tuners are set to "Don't use" on Settings -> Hardware. Select a suitable DVB-S transponderlist in the TransEdit Main Window. Scan. Select one of the scan results and open the Preview Window for playing the channel.

7) Without closing the Preview Window (that keeps the DVB-S tuner occupied), return to the TransEdit Main Window, select a suitable DVB-T transponderlist. Select a transponder resp. frequency that usually delivers results, and try to scan it, or click the Analyzer button.

If analyzing/scanning a DVB-T transponder and pre-viewing a DVB-S channel (or the other way round) works at the same time, you are right :blush:
