Hardware requirements for network streaming server

Hi,

I would like to install my home server broadcasting HD-TV over the home network.

My only concern is a hardware - I heard it doesn't have to be a powerful machine but what exactly it means?

The server will be equipped with two DVB-S2 USB cards and should stream two HD channels simultaneously.

Will be also serving my movies, pictures etc. over the 1000MB home network.

I am considering the following options:

1. the old laptop P4 1,6 GHz (IBM X31 - this is what I have)

2. "home made" nettop with single atom processor 1,6 Ghz, 10Watt power consumption (this is what I would like to have in the future)

Will be such hardware sufficient?
