Laserwave
Hello, I'm currently using VLC to stream channels from my SAT receiver, to my PC. Can I use DVBViewer instead to do this? If I try to open with DVBV the link VLC uses (from the receivers web interface) to select a channel, it won't open. Gioxy
How do you "use VLC to stream channels from my SAT receiver, to my PC"? ...I'm guessing that your SAT receiver isn't a classical "set-top box", so if you want some help please explain us verbosely what exactly is your receiving system... Thanks. Yes, it's a Linux-based sat-receiver (with Enigma-2/Dreambox type software), so it can easily find its way to a local network. You can then access its web-interface from PC browser and launch VLC from there, to watch all channels the receiver can show, including HD channels, in the PC. Gioxy
Ok thanks, now it make sense... As you certainly know, VLC incorporate a bunch of own, private codecs (it's one of the best "universal" players), while DVBViewer (that's born for TV/MPEG use) depends exclusively on system's installed codecs; hence you have to discover what kind of stream is going out from your Linux-box (you can know from "VLC / Tools /Codec Information") and try installing a correspondent/proper set of codecs (including a proper splitter) on your system to use with DVBViewer... Good luke and let us know... Quote Link to comment
Laserwave
Here's what VLC reports for a regular SD MPEG-2 channel. The URL that the receiver sends and VLC opens is sth. like: http://192.168.1.4/web/stream.m3u?ref=1%3A0%3A1%3AE1E%3A708%3AC8%3A820000%3A0%3A0%3A0%3A but DVBViewer won't open it. Maybe it's a splitter issue. Edited October 27, 2011 by Laserwave Quote Link to comment
Gioxy
Uhm, it seems a plain and standard MPEG stream; maybe the evil reside elsewere since I nor think it's splitter matter.. But I noticed that the command open a file (...stream.m3u): have you already tryed to save locally this file to analyze it? Can you please post the content here? Quote Link to comment
Laserwave
Thanks Gioxy, I really wouldn't know how to analyse it... Here it is. Quote Link to comment
Gioxy
Ok, these is the m3u content (dunno why the IP is different from one you wrote before): #EXTM3U #EXTVLCOPT--http-reconnect=true http://192.168.1.5:8001/1:0:1:E1E:708:C8:820000:0:0:0:'>http://192.168.1.5:8001/1:0:1:E1E:708:C8:820000:0:0:0: where the red parts seems to be VLC specific cammands, so in DVBViewer I think you have to try to open only: http://192.168.1.5:8001/1:0:1:E1E:708:C8:820000:0:0:0:'>http://192.168.1.5:8001/1:0:1:E1E:708:C8:820000:0:0:0: or maybe simply: http://192.168.1.5:8001 Please report your findings... Laserwave
192.168.1.5 is correct. Your 1st link, gives the prompt to open or save file (screen 1), as is the case when I click the web interface to stream with VLC (screen 2). When I select open with DVBViewer though, DVBV is not started, but rather Firefox seems to continuously download the "1:0:1:E1E:708:C8:820000:0:0:0:.mpeg" file (":" is replaced by "_" in Firefox), with approx. the same speed as the SD channel "streaming" speed. (~550KB/sec). edit: I now noticed the difference between .m3u (working) and "MPEG Media file" (not working) Opening DVBV, selecting "Open URL" and pasting the link, doesn't do anything, apart from some strange sounds, similar to those when there is no signal strength. You can hear them here (lower volume first ). On clicking the 2nd link, Firefox gives a white screen with just "NO SERVICE". Pasting the URL to DVBV, returns the error (screen 3). Thanks for your support. Edited October 31, 2011 by Laserwave Quote Link to comment
Gioxy
From what I can understand the first part of the link (http://192.168.1.5:8001) are the address of your streaming box and the port from where it stream (:8001) and the rest (/1:0:1:E1E:708:C8:820000:0:0:0:) are commands to instruct your box on wich channel you whant it to stream... maybe DVBViewer simply cannot send that part, or maybe you have to change the "/" with a "&" (ie the link become "http://192.168.1.5:8001&1:0:1:E1E:708:C8:820000:0:0:0:"), or maybe who knows in whatelse way DVBViewer can do it... But if you like experiment some more, I think you can try in starting the stream regularly with VLC and try to chach it, at the same time, with DVBViever. To do so, once you are watching the stream in VLC, mute and minimize it and then try to open the started stream with DVBViewer using the third link (ie 192.168.1.5:8001, even without "http://"); however pay attention that as VLC will have already taken the control of one video renderer, probably you have to select another for DVBViewer (it depends on the capability of you video card...), but if at least you can hear the right audio with DVBViewer, we will know that the stream was cached... Have fun... Quote Link to comment
Laserwave
I tried your suggestions but DVBV won't open the stream. Thanks again! Maybe I'll ask at the receiver's software forum, or even the manufacturer directly. Quote Link to comment

Tjod
DVBServer.exe has been discontinued and will be no longer available. The current solution is the Recording Service. http://en.DVBViewer.tv/wiki/Recording_Service_Installation_Guide Quote Link to comment
yogy
pfff it is not easy with the Recording Service why you stop the simple service of streaming !!??!! i want just stream my sat in my LAN, no recording and others ... how we read the stream with VLC ? What is the URL ? Quote Link to comment
Tjod
no recording Don't select "Connect to timer list" and "Connect to recordings list" in the DVBViewer Client. how we read the stream with VLC ? What is the URL ?That was never possible with DVBServer.exe. The DVBServer.exe was for DVBViewer Clients only. But it is possible in the Recording Service. Open the web-interface > click on a channel logo > and save the channel list.m3u (channels.m3u) to you pc. Now you can change channels in the VLC player in the seam way as you change songs in a playlist. Quote Link to comment
