DVBViewer in an school environment

Hi everybody,

We are testing DVBViewer+Recordings Service with a 8 Tuner card and we would like to suggest some features that would be very useful in an school environment.

At the moment there is one teacher in the school programming all the recording mainly using the web interface of the Recordings Service from home and at school. The recordings for diferent school departments go to the same folder and so one must move manually the recordings to their final store directory manually. So, that'a a lot fo work for one person.

We would like the departments to select one teacher who would be responsible for the recordings of that department. We would like any of these teachers (~12 teachers) to logon with a diferent user name to the web interface of Recordings service (let say admin1,admin2,admin3... admin12) and to be able to choose a diferent "Recording" folder for every teacher (let say c:\recordigns\mathematics, c:\recordigns\physics....).

It would be also great if there was a way to integrate recordings made with other methods with DVBViewwer so we can have a single video repository for all the school.

Best regards,

Jaume

From Wiki:

Recording file name

The following place holders can be used for the recording file name:

%year = year %date = sortable month and day %time = time %station = the channel %event = the title of the broadcast %title = the (Sub)Title (if any) %tshort = the (Sub)Title (if any) shortened to 80 chars. %m = Month %d = day of the month %h = time hour %M = time minute %g = the Genre (if any) %D = Day of the week (Mo, Tue etc)

Additionally you can define sub folders. Example:

 %station\%date_%time_%station_%event does: [..]kabel eins\01-13_20-10-06_kabel eins_first strike - jackie chans erstschlag.ts

You can use more than one sub folder. The sub folders are generated automatically. You can also use a predefined folder name...

Hallo,

Thank you for the tip. I have also found that you can define diferent "recording folders" in the RS Service in the "Recording Options" .

These options can help a lot but we still fear that been most of the teachers not very much tech-savyy, we will end having a little chaos

with recordings belonging to different departments in the same folders. This is reason we thought that it would be nice if you could link different users (admin1, admin2...) with diferent recording folders (or, even, other recording options).

On the other hand, is there a way to link a recording with information like "school department", "class".... or other information that would be of interest for the school? I see in the "Recordings" windows of the RS webinterface the option to search by "Sender",""Genre","Serie","Name","Datum". It woulb be nice to be able to catalog the recordings with more complex information. I can guess that It would be possible to add some information in the filename of the recording, but I don't think that would suffice for what we have in mind.

Best regards,

Maybee a way to solve this, could be that the developers include an option to use environmental variables, like %USERNAME%

This way it would also be possible to use userdefined variables like %MYVARIABLE%

You could also experiment with Tasks in Recording Service. If you create som scripts you could execute after the recording finish, you could automate it.
