SuperOscar Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 I've installed DVBViewer Pro and it works fine when I run it with a superuser account (on Windows XP SP2). However, that's not how I normally log on to my computers. When I launch DVBViewer using my regular, restricted user account, it fails to start up. The progress bar in the opening banner is about 90% full when it stucks. The text in the banner claims DVBViewer is setting up OSD skins. The HDD is working wildly and doesn't stop until I close the program (it closes down quite gracefully, BTW). Can anyone tell me what the program is doing at that point? Should I give full rights to all users in some subfolder of the DVBViewer folder, or what? Or is it register-related -- should I check whether my user account has sufficient rights in the register tree? (Better be prepared, folks: when Vista arrives, no one is running with superuser privileges any more!) Quote
Griga Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 You've missed setting the user mode accordingly when installing the app. Read here how it can be changed. Quote
SuperOscar Posted March 21, 2006 Author Posted March 21, 2006 Thanks, that did it. I hadn't really "missed setting" the user mode; rather I chose wrongly during the setup. The descriptions for the choices were strangely formulated. Apparently, I should have chosen "Compatibility mode" (compatible with what?!) rather than "All users" (which I thought would give program access to everyone). If I may suggest, the dialog box in the setup wizard is big enough to hold more verbose descriptions! Quote
Griga Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 I see. "All Users" gives access to everyone, but there is a problem: If the app is launched with admin rights first, only admins get write access to the configuration files in the All Users profile. One of the security measures that have been introduced with SP2, I suppose. In this case it is necessary to change the access rights for the Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\DVBViewer Pro folder manually. However, I prefer UserMode 1 (the "per user" mode, which is suitable for restricted accounts as well), because I don't want my daughter to mess up my DVBViewer configuration when she is busy in her account Quote
