Embed telext subtitling in output MPG

Hi,

 

I want to embed the (Swedish) subtitling that is sent as a teletext page and include it in my recorded output stream. I usually edit this stream to a DVD which should play on a standalone DVD player.

 

Just recording with MPG output does not include the subtitle, of course. Recording to TS and then later somehow merge video and subtitle/teletext seems ideal.

 

I have read a number of topics on this issue here, but not found any real good solution, not even after Googling around.

 

The TSPlayer can play TS files and superimpose the subtitle/teletext on the screen. But it does not seem to be able to merge it into the converted MPG stream. You probably need to reencode the stream to embed the subtitle?

 

*) Do you know of any good tool that can do the job?

Embedding teletext subtitles in a DVD is quite complicated, but possible, e.g. with the following steps:

 

- Record as TS. Include teletext.

 

- Demux with ProjectX and export the subtitles as SUP. Select outlined text (letters with a black border). Specify the subtitle teletext page and the desired font. Cutting / removing ads has to be done in ProjectX.

 

- Author with IFOEdit. Include the SUP file.

 

- ProjectX additionally outputs a sup.IFO file. Open it in IFOEdit. Select VGS_PGCITI -> VTS_PGC_1 (or similar) and then perform Subtitle Color -> Copy Colors from this PGC (see main menu).

 

- Open the IFO file of your DVD to-be (e.g. VTS_01_0.IFO) with IFOEdit. Select the same PGC entry as before. Perform Subtitle Color -> Paste Colors into this PGC and finally Save.

 

The last two steps are necessary for getting a readable subtitle color.
