Hi I was wondering if it is possible to receive qam cable encrypted or unencrypted with the air star or is this card solely made for picking up free atsc channels?

If it is the flexcop based "air star" it is for DVB-T only ! DVB-C for cable uses a different modulation. ATSC again is something different. It uses 8VSB for US terrestrial transmissions.
