Some Newbie Questions

After the sad response to my other topic about skystar 1, I am thinking of buying a new dvb card, one that is compatible with DVBViewer. I have a few questions, if someone could answer I would appreciate:

1 - Technotrend Connect USB S2400, is it compatible? I found some info in the forum, but it's all in german I can't understand and the online translators don't do much either. (if there are any suggestions about other cheaper cards, I'm also interested)

2 - Is DVBViewer compatible with multidec plugins (as Progdvb is)

3 - Does DVBViewer work well with these cards without pauses during playback? I read somewhere that with these budget cards that happens.

4 - Does DVBViewer work with this card and allows to stream to other pc's in the same network? Is it possible to change the channel in the client pc's, even for other transponders (in my case I will only need one computer actually viewing channels, the other can only stream to the network). Do I need multiple licenses of DVBViewer to do this?

5 - Is it possible to use this card in an old P-III 733, only for streaming (not actually viewing the channels on that computer)?

6 - Does this card support DVBS-2 and/or HDTV (not sure if there's a difference)? Again I found some information with google, but all in german...

Any help would be appreciated.

1) I don't really know but I'm confident with it... dig more on Internet...

2) DVBV is plenty of "propetary" plugins, and talking about certain type of plugins is forbidden (look with care in the forum rules...)

3) To hard to answer in absolute: normally yes, but problems can be located everywere in the hw, sw (eg codecs) and configs... but if you refer to USB 1.1 bandwith problem, this card have a v.2.0 USB, so this kind problem isn't here at all...

4) Yes it can stream on LAN; yes, clients can tune but not from differents transponders (1 card = 1 tuner = 1 trasponder), but you can have multiple card working with multiple DVBViewer (so 2 card = 2 tuner = 2 trasponder ecc...); afaik you need a unique 15€ license :)

5) Yes, the CPU use is very low...

6) No, the TT S2400 don't support DVB-S2, but yes, it support HDTV MPEG2 & MPEG4 (h.264), but this is a codec's work...

sorry about the plugin question, I'll look into it. About the clients being able to change channel, my ideia was to have a server always streaming to a laptop, so the laptop has to be able to change to any channel on the list and the list must have all channels found in the satellite. I only need to watch one at a time and I only have one computer in client mode (the server also doesn't need to show any channels). What I want to know is if this is possible, if in client mode we can choose not only the channels in the current transponder but also make the server change transponder and choose a channel in that transponder (all this in one step, simply choose channel from the list and the server does the rest). I hope this question is clear enough, since this is essential for me (I have streaming to network already with progdvb and my skystar1, but now I need to remote control the server to change channel there, the idea of a new dvb card and DVBViewer was to make things easier).

If you use the DVB Server (part of the DVBViewer Installation) and a DVBViewer as client you could change channels.

But if more then one client are connected to a DVB Server only the first could change the transponder.

thanks, that's what I wanted to know. So, since I only have one client, I can always change transponders. Now all I need is to make sure this card is supported, that I won't need dvb-s2 for a few years and I'm ready to buy both the card and DVBViewer. Thanks for all the help, hopefully the next time I post I'll be a happy user of DVBViewer.

The TechnoTrend T-2400 USB-Box should work with the BDA-driver but may be Diseqc did not work (there are no informations about it).
