MarkRy Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 (edited) Hi, I have XP, a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR4000, a 3Ghz PC and DVBViewer, of course. My particular interest is BBC-HD and recording ts streams. Setup was a doddle and DVBViewer is up and running. It seems to use 50% cpu utilisation. My only comment is that sometimes I see CPU utilisation at 5% and the frame rate is very slow. With BBCHD there appears to be some dropped frames and the odd buffer overflow. I would prefer 75% utilisation and no dropped frames but it doesnt seem to want to go over 50% and break a sweat. My problem is this. I can watch BBC-HD and record it as a TS file. The TS file is the right size (@20Mbps) - but when I play it (drop it into DVDViewer) it either doesnt play or plays for a couple of seconds jerkily and fails. The TS file appears to be corrupt. If I put it in Graph edit it plays for a couple of seconds (a few jerky frames, no sound) and then I get a "pause 10 second error" message. I have looked at the file information in "Super encoder" and the sound element seems often missing or corrupted. On one file it says it was encrypted. The TS files I recorded with DVBViewer wont play in C'link Powercinema or a standalone TS h.261 player. I have tried different DirectX settings / codecs - none of them play either in the PC or the iplayer. I am absolutely stuck. I have the latest version. FYI, files I record in Powercinema play but have very poor lip-sync. The reason I bought DVBViewer. What is odd is that I thought the TS stream was almost the same as what is broadcast. So its very difficult to understand why it plays so well "Live" but after recording is pretty much unplayable in anything. Please help. All I want is a compliant TS file. I have focussed on the BBC-HD but there are problems with SD channels too. Thank you. Pls help.......... Edit: I have increased the smart buffer to 20Mb and things are much better it seems. I would be happy to hear any comments. I would aslo like to hear any fundamental difference between the BBCHD terrestrial stream and the satellite stream, if any one knows. I assume I can only get .ts recordings with the h.261 satellite stream. Its a good little program from what I have seen. Thanks anyone. Edited March 16, 2007 by MarkRy Quote

Have you tried playing the ts files in DVBViewer itself? It does open and play them. The other option is to download the TS player from the members section. I use the TS player most of the time to play BBC HD ts files. The only thing about the TS player is that I'm still not sure whether the changes I make in this effect the DVBViewer settings. I had a few compatibility problems at first but now it works fine. With regards to other players I have never been able to play the BBC HD ts files in any other players including PowerDVD, VLC Player, Windows Media Classic etc etc. These players have played downloaded ts files before but I think its the H264 codec that causes problems when trying BBC HD stuff. Try either DVBViewer itself or the TS player. Both should work fine with a bit of tweaking. The other thing about CPU speed is, do you have a dual core processor? If so, have you unchecked the "use only 1st CPU" setting in the "Options" menu? I'm sure you have but its worth mentioning. I had various crashes and problems when I first used DVBViewer and then I changed "Video Overlay" to "unchanged" and experimented with other settings and eventually I got everything working fine and BBC HD runs silky smooth now. MarkRy Posted May 8, 2007 Author Posted May 8, 2007 Thanks Gae41, I didn't spot your reply. The buffer size turned out to be key - for h.264 it needs to be big. The current version of DVBViewer does not play my BBCHD ts files but TSPlayer does. I appreciate you taking the time. Regards. Quote

HI MarkRy, I've just had problems playing recorded BBC HD ts files too and so I downloaded the BBC HD Fixer and the new TS player v 1.8 and they now play fine again. I guess as this is a trial station, settings are bound to change from time to time. In this case though, I believe its an error in the Transport Stream. Gae Edited May 11, 2007 by Gae41 Quote
Griga Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 Here is summarised what BBC HD did and what we did and what works under which conditions: http://www.DVBViewer.info/forum/index.php?...st&p=135549 Quote
