dhs Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Hi, i'm new on DVB-S on pc, i'd like to buy DVBViewer and a dvb-s card. My pc (shuttle sn25p) has only a pci-ex slot, so i must go on USB or Firewire. Initially i targeted FireDTV but it's ways too exepensive for a device not supporting S2. I found the Technotrend Connect USB S2400, but i don't know how well it may work overall and in particular in DVBViewer. Alternative may be the S3600 (S2) but it's still too expensive. Anyone can give me some feedback on both? Thanks. Quote
HenPen Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Works fine - PnP. I use the BDA driver from Technotrend (1.0.2.3). I tried their newer BDA but back rev'd when it didn't seem to work well. Technotrend also has viewer software with drivers but I never tried it after reading posts here and other AV forums. I'd be interested to hear if you get the TT and use their software. Quote
CiNcH Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 (edited) I tried their newer BDA but back rev'd when it didn't seem to work well. Can you go a little bit more into detail? A friend of mine has the same box and seems to be experiencing tuning problems. For the time being I recommended to try DVBViewer Griga Edition and switch to TT-DVB-S tuning space. Didn't get any feedback yet. With TT-Media Center everything works fine. Edited March 26, 2007 by CiNcH Quote
dhs Posted March 27, 2007 Author Posted March 27, 2007 (edited) Ok, please, give me an advice on a *good* usb2 dvb-s device, working well with DVBViewer. So far i found: - the two TechnoTrend (S2400 - S3600[s2]) - pinnacle pctv 450e and 452e (s2). - hauppauge WinTV Nova S USB (not listed on hauppauge site but sold on ebay). - Terratec Cinergy S Usb. other options could be a PCI-Ex DVB-S card (can't find one) or a Firewire i1394 one (found only FireDTV, but ways too expensive). Also, another hint: may i use the remotes that come with those devices to pilot DVBViewer and other htpc apps or must i get an MCE / Usb IR remote? Thanks. Edited March 27, 2007 by dhs Quote
HenPen Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 The TT 2400-s is a budget winner (with DVBViewer of course). With a little help on the configuration (http://www.DVBViewer.info/forum/index.php?s=&showtopic=14448&view=findpost&p=128759) it works perfect now. I even upgraded to the newest BDA 1.0.2.3. I'm only watching (scanning, recording, timeshifting) with FTA Astra channels in Germany so that keeps it simplier. The TT comes with a remote and I see there's a plugin for it here but I haven't tried it yet - but will soon Quote
