leonfgomez Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 When I have DVBViewer minimized and in system tray mode only, windows is not able to close it and operations like restart and turn off can't be completed I am using v3.6.3.0 but I have noticed this problem since v3.6.1.20 leon Quote
Lars_MQ Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 you have to close the DVBViewer before ending windows. This is intentional. Quote
leonfgomez Posted June 5, 2007 Author Posted June 5, 2007 and why is it intentional? It makes no sense. Why not allow windows to close automatically DVBViewer as it does with the rest of applications? leon Quote
Griga Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 and why is it intentional? It makes no sense. Of course it makes sense, but you are not able to see it. Do the following: - Launch Notepad - Type some characters - Leave your user account What happens? - Notepad asks you if you want to save the text. - After a short time Windows offers to close Notepad forcibly, if you don't respond Of cource it doesn't matter if Notepad is closed forcibly, but if DVBViewer is running (and probably asks you whether an ongoing recording or timeshift shall be stopped or not), it does matter. There are DVB devices and device drivers that are very unforgiving (even after reboot) if an application that uses them doesn't perform a proper shutdown. They still want to send their stream, but the recipient is suddenly gone, and everything ends up in confusion. In case of forced closing DVBViewer has no opportunity to finish things properly. Additionally, scheduled recordings and other changes would not be saved, the DVB Task Scheduler would get no opportunity to do its work, etc. DVBViewer is no Mickey Mouse Software. It uses much more hardware and system ressources than other kinds of software, and we just try to prevent users from doing something unhealthy, that's all. Quote
