Raptor-75 Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 I just bought DVBViewer and I'm confused by the different recording methods. People mention "DVBViewer Service", "DVB Task Scheduler" and "Videorecorder plugin" but I haven't found an overview that explains when to use them or the regular recording method. I will be going on a trip and I will leave the computer running the whole time. I want to record from an HD h.264 DVB-T channel according to a timer schedule while I'm away. It's ok if DVBViewer is running the whole time but I don't want it to show the video on the screen since I will be using Remote Desktop to connect to my computer. Which method would be the best? I'm also confused by the "TS format options" in Options->Recorder. I thought the whole stream was recorded if you selected the TS output format. Do I need to use an alternative recording method to get the whole stream? I'll be using a Hauppauge WinTV-NOVA-T-500 but I don't have it yet. Thanks in advance! Quote
Lars_MQ Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 OK let's take it appart. The videorecoder plugin was useful some time ago. Now it is only useful, if you have very special wishes (only seleted PIDs etc.). Normally you don't need it anymore, the internal recording engine is powerful enough. The Taskscheduler is a tool to wake the computer from standby or hibernate for a recording and to start the DVBViewer so it does record. The recording service is the recording engine of the DVBViewer Pro build into a program (actually a native windows service) without any display. it only records and does this with the use of very few resources. It can wake the computer also from Standby/hibernate and put it back to sleep again. TS means Transportstream, if you record Transportstream (or parts of it) you record exactly what comes form the broadcaster. if you record as MPEG2 Programstream, the data has to be repacked in a special way, it is no longer a transport stream. A transportstream can have one stream (a channel) or more up to the whole transponder (that's called a transponder dump and includes all streams of a transponder). Quote
Raptor-75 Posted August 11, 2007 Author Posted August 11, 2007 Thanks for the quick reply Lars. It can wake the computer also from Standby/hibernate and put it back to sleep again. Sounds good but it's only available as a beta version, right? Is it reliable? TS means Transportstream, if you record Transportstream (or parts of it) you record exactly what comes form the broadcaster. Are there any downsides to selecting teletext, dvb subtitle and "all audiochannels" other than disk space? Quote
Mr Rimmer Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Thanks for the quick reply Lars.Sounds good but it's only available as a beta version, right? Is it reliable? As another newbie, I'd love to see a tutorial on exactly this issue... the current documentation seems rather inadequate. ANybody with a clue care to share? ;-) Quote
SimonP Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 I'll second that. I need a "series record" facility similar to the one in Windows Media Center - i.e. you tell it to record all episodes of a particular programme and it does it automatically - but I can't see any way of doing it. Could someone explain this to us please? Quote
Tjod Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 Tay EPGplus it is not exact a series record but it should help. Quote
