General DVBViewer questions:

I've just started using DVBViewer, which is a excellent program btw, but I have a couple of question I hope you can help me answer.

1) In recording settings I can choose mpg or video ts. Have choosen last one to easily play in DVD players. Is there a easy and smart program to remove commercials and to remove recorded unnessary languages?

2) Have installed DVB task scheduler, which runs in the tray, but is the program designed only to be used when HTPC is to be waken up from S3? Is there any parameters for me to set in the settings?

3) I have some problemet with recordings after sleep mode, where it stops and comes with an error message. Is it perhaps because I haven't splitted the recording file and it gets to big even for NTFS system?

4) When I records I get all soundtrack, but for example Discovery HD has sometimes 4 languages, which costs space. Can I make AC3 priority and what will it help if I enable AC3 in channeledit?

5) In the tray there is a DVB icon, which is set for autostart, but even though DVB runs the status is "DVBViewer service is stopped"?

6) To decode h264 is it best to choose PowerDVD or FFDShow?

That was a lot of questions. I hope there is a kind soul, who can help:)

Which version are you using?

1) You could try videoredo.

2) There are many settings... just click on the tray icon and it should open. What do you want it to do?

3) It's unlikely that the file get's to big for NTFS... I'm not 100% sure where the limit for files in NTFS is, but I know that I once had a file that was nearly 100GB big... I doubt that you recorded that much in a single file. ;)

4) If you configure the timer on the Channelentry with the AC3 Audio, and deselect "record all audio channels" it will record just AC3 Audio. If you are using the latest version (3.8), you should select AC3 Audio as default by draging it on Discovery HD, so it becomes the "top" channel.

5) It's the icon of the DVBViewer Recording Service. If you are not using it, which seems to be the case, because you are using task sheduler (you should use only one of both!), you can delete it from Autostart, just right click on the icon and untick "autostart". But you should be sure that the service isn't installed and running in the background. Does the icon turn orange, if you close DVBViewer?

6) certainly powerDVD... ffdshow can't handle many of the live tv h.264 streams, yet. ;)

//Edit: ok, then I think, you should do an update first ;)

Hi first of all thanks for the answer both of you.

@Lars MQ: I'm using 3.6.20 currently.

@moses:

1) Can Videoredo be used in mpeg4 editing?

2) I want it to start up in sleep mode and record. Currently I have the problem, that it only goes to the login screen for user. I have done what is says in the reg, because I don't want to use password. I have enabled Microsoft Task Scheduler. What should I write in execute as? My computer\username, username or nothing?

4) I'm only using v. 3.6.

5) It is in autostart, but I don't think it turns orange when I close. What's the best and easiest to use recording service or task? The recording service icon is always in the tray but it's gray.

I will try to update this weekend.

Should I uninstall DVBViewer first or just update, and will my settings be kept?

Thanks alot for the help:)

1) No, I don't think so. If that's H.264 MPEG4 Material, then I don't know an easy way to edit that, yet... I'm looking for a good one, myself, too. Currently I use TSPlayer to cut away beginning and ending. CVS Versions of ProjectX should be able to demux / cut it also... but I didn't test that, yet.

5) Better use tasksheduler, when you are not familar with windows services. :rolleyes:

If you just update, your settings will be kept, if you select the same user mode (default is "for all"). In most cases it doesn't cause problem to just install over the older version.
