How to replicate MCE OSD (+ Other newbie questions)

Hi,

Complete newbie!

I've recently installed DVBViewer Pro and am very impressed with it. I'm seriously considering using it as my primary PVR application, but there are a few things I need to tweak.

1) Firstly, the OSD... I spent a fair while trying to find it when I eventually found out that I only need to press the Return button on the keyboard! Whilst it contains a wealth of information, I was hoping for a more Windows Media Center look and feel as shown here : http://www.DVBViewer.com/images/scrs/mainosd.jpg

Could someone please tell me which Skin I need to install to get this MCE look ?

2) Also, I have an iMon VFD Infrared receiver. Although it can be programmed to accept MCE commands, I have it configured to capture iMon PAD commands as there is richer set of commands e.g. I can use my remote control as a mouse. I was hoping there may be a pre-defined file with all of the DVBViewer commands mapped to the iMon Pad buttons.

The only plugins I've seen that are availabnle relate to other Remote Controls : MCE, FireDTV, Technotrend, Twinhan and X10. Is there anything available for iMon's pad ?

3) And finally, could someone please explain how I can view Channel Groups ? I've got three tuners (FireDTV DVB-S and a dual Nova-T DVB-T tuners) but can't see a method of selecting a channel on any specific tuner. It seems like the preferred one is chosen first and then the normal ones after that. This functions as expected, but it would be good to group by the Tuners so I can test that they all actually work.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

1. That's the frosch OSD skin, I think. There are some other skins here (it's the german part, but you will recognize the "skin" threads and won't have to read much, I think): http://www.DVBViewer.info/forum/index.php?showforum=9

They are ceartainly worth a look! ;)

2. With iMon Manager you can define keyboard shortcuts, so a plugin is not realy necessary. Those plugins get the IR codes directly from the reciever. I appended a file, containing a profile for iMon Manager for DVBViewer which just maps every button to a keyboard shortcut and a config for DVBViewer which maps that shortcut to actions. These settings are my personal ones... I'm quite sure you'll find some things you don't like (for example I abused vol+/- for OSD prev/next to faster scrolling in OSD Lists)... you'll just have to learn that button for a different action. ;)

3. Don't understand, what you really want... ?

DVB-S and DVB-T channels are different channels for DVBViewer. If you want the same channel to be available for DVB-T and DVB-S, then you need to have it in the channellist two times! But you'll need to decide if you want to watch DVB-T or DVB-S manually.. there is no mapping between channels for some good reasons.

If you want to test, if all your tuners are working, personaly I test that with recordings. Switch to a first DVB-T channel, start recording, switch to another one on another mux and see if it works. To be sure, open recorder statistics (red i) and have a look on the last page. There you'll see what devices are in use. On the first page you can stop the recording and delete the produced file.

Alternative: just set the status of all other devices to "do not use" temporarely, so you can test just one device.

Did that answer your question? ;)

Nope, it's the old default Skin, that is no longer Part of DVBViewer. To Access the OSD-Menu just press ESC on your Keyboard and there you go ;)

The Frosch OSD Skin looks a little like MCE but as Moses mentioned there are many more Skins. hdv posted a good overview here:

Thanks for the response guys. I'll be trying out the skins tonight when I get home. And thanks for the iMon keyboard shortcut mapper file - That's just what I needed. To clarify my issue about viewing channel groups :

Ok, I should've clarified. The DVB-S tuner is using a hacked driver which presents Satelitte information as DVB-T. This is supplied by www.digital-everywhere.com. Some of you may be familiar with it as the FireDTV tuner.

So although the card is DVB-S, it is presented to MCE and DVBViewer as a Terrestrial signal.

So going back to my original question. I have 3 Digital Terrestrial tuner's presented to DVBViewer using two cards. One is a FireDTV single tuner card and the other is a Nova-T dual tuner card.

If I select the 'A', 'B', 'C', buttons in the channel groups (FireDTV = A , Nova-T's = B ), during Set up within the DVB Wizard, I can't see these A, B, C titles within the channel list. Should I be expecting to seeing these ? I would've expected the channels lists to be grouped by A, B and C. So therefore I could choose to view / record from the tuner card of my choice, rather than the preferred or normal tuner.

I guess the bottom line question, what is the purpose of A, B C after you've tuned ? They don't seem to be presented anywhere else in the GUI other than the set up wizard.

Hope that makes sense.

Ok.. first thing: better deinstall the MCE driver and take the BDA drivers... DVBViewer can handle DVB-S correctly and doesn't need that hack... I think it could also produce problems. Then you won't need to care about groups... ;)

To explain the groups: in Options->Hardware each device can be enabled or disabled for A B C.

Each channel can be assigned one Group, you can do that manually or automatically during scan. It's not necessary to decide which tuner type is used, DVBViewer will take the right tuner for DVB-S or DVB-T (if you use the correct drivers) -> no need for groups in your setup. It's necessary if you have different PayTV Abos on different cards and if you recieve different satellits with different cards. If you disable group A for a device, DVBViewer won't tune any channels in group A for that device.

The groups can only be seen in channel editor, becaus it's something you should setup once and don't borther with it later on. ;)
