TT-S2-3200 under Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit

Hello everybody. This is my first post here, for me it is a pleasure to join this community.

I recently upgraded my HTPC with a brand new H264 compatible board (Technotrend TT-S2 3200) , and with DVBViewer Pro, which I recently discovered having a lot of nice features, although it is a little bit complicated to configure.

Besides, just a few week ago I upgraded the O.S. from XP Pro to Vista Home Premium; luckily, I kept functioning XP, so currently I've got the possibility to boot the PC with both the O.S. alternatively.

My hardware is almost the same, Athlon 64 dual core 4200+ CPU, 2 GB DDR400 RAM, PCIe ATI X800-XL graphic board. The only difference is that XP is hosted by a Serial ATA Western Digital 250 GB Hard disk, while Vista is hosted by a P-ATA 300 GB hard disk

The problem that I am experimenting is that, with Vista, I have very poor frame rates with HD channels, and just acceptable frame rates with SD channels. Furthermore, the CPU occupation arrives, with HD channels (like Astra HD) to 90%. Viceversa, with XP Pro, the HD channels playback is quite smooth, and CPU occupation is under 50%. I am using the same driver version for both the O.S.- the latest I downloaded from Technotrend website, and the same graph (Cyberlink) with both O.S.

Somebody can explain this strange thing? I'd like to use Vista, but at the moment I can't, and I should activate it within a week...

Kind regards

Here are some links that i hope you might find them useful:

first link

second link

and the last one

Thank you very much, ricabullah.

Reading these links you kindly posted, I understand that, in order to achieve good frame rates watching HDTV in Windows Vista 32 bit,

1) I should use the BDA drivers for 3200 ver. 5.0.0.6, instead of the latest (5.0.0.12) - ok, no problem;

2) I should buy a new graphic card, preferably a NVIDIA 8800 GTS (at least 220 € here in Italy)

3) I should buy the Cyberlink PowerDVD Ultra with 7.3. H264 decoder(62 € upgrade cost)

So, summarizing, I should spend 284 € , while with XP Pro I can watch HDTV without any fuss ... mmhh.. Let me thing about it.

Kind regards

Ciao,

1) Of course you can use 5.0.0.12; this is current version...

2) You should buy a cheaper card like 8500 GT (50 USD) or 8600 GT (100 USD) but never 8800 GTS (cause you can not get HA with this.)

If you consider a better card, i say 8800 GT (just GT)

3) If you want HA you must upgrade since till now no other decoder can make HA.

If you want to use XP, why not? You can. This case choose overlay as renderer.

Then you may calculate again :sadwalk:

Thanks ricabullah. I will go for a 8800 GT - found one which have passive cooler only (no noise anymore  ).
