Associated files?

Associated files don’t work for me

First time I associated a “.ts” file with DVBViewer it was no problem. When I did click on the file DVBViewer opens and plays the file.

Later on I did install a newer version of DVBViewer in parallel with the first one. Then it was not possible to associate the file extension “.ts” with the new “DVBViewer.exe”. I did solve the problem when I change the name to “DVBViewer-B.exe”.

But now I have installed “DVB Task Scheduler”, and that program doesn’t work if I change the name of “DVBViewer.exe”.

So then I did remove all versions of DVBViewer except my last installation (9.3.2.0).

But it’s still not possible to associate “.ts” – files to DVBViewer!!!

However, if I log in as another user it is possible. The conclusion is that it has something to do with the user settings.

Any ideas how to completely remove all old versions of DVBViewer?

Or did I miss something else?

Kind Regars,

I have got the answer on the net. DVBViewer will not be deleted in registry although the uninstall program is used.

However, the issue can be fixed with help of Regedit. But be careful; always create a restore point before working with Regedit.

*1 Enter ”Start / All programs / Accessories / System tools / System restore” and create a restore point.

*2 Enter “Start / Run” and run “Regedit”.

*3 Go to “HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT / Applications” and check for different versions of DVBViewer.

*4 Delete the version that use the name “DVBViewer.exe” that conflicts with the version you want to use. The name is visible under shell / open / command.

*5 Exit Regedit

*6 Give your wanted application the name DVBViewer.exe (if not already done).

*7 Right click on a “.ts” file. Select “open with / choose program”, browse for your wanted application. Now it is possible to select it.

Things should be made as simple as possible, but not any simpler.
