TKorho Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Hello, I'm having some signal drops with TV viewing, every now and then. Those a coupe to few "blocks" of errors on the screen, you know the drill. With DVBViewer I have them every now and then, about once in 10s or 20s. They are of course very visible. Though not blocking the watching any way. Now the strange thing is that this doesn't happen all at the same amount with other viewer programs! I mean, my DVB-C card is not very good (Twinhan Mantis) but it gives decent picture. When I use the card's native program, or MediaPortal, there are no problems, nowhere near the same frequency. There is clear difference that everybody in the family notices. I am using the same drivers and all that stuff. Now can someone help me? The DVBViewer is very good program, and otherwise gives very good features and picture quality (I am using also FFDShow, which works here better than with anything else). But the family starts complaining about the constat problems. ==> is there some setting to fix this? For example is there some limit to signal processing or perhaps could my exact channel be somehow off? DVBViewer gives a couple of procents (5-10%?) better (?) signal strenght from the card than what I get with the other programs: it could be that the DVBViewer is expecting better signal what it really gets. Or something similar. Thanks! Quote

A stable mediacenter no matter if it's DVB-S/S2, C/CO or T/T2 or any DTV used in the USA, should not have any video or audio related problem. You should post a support.zip file cause this might be a matter of a wrong configuration. Edited February 24, 2008 by Benarty Quote
TKorho Posted February 24, 2008 Author Posted February 24, 2008 My bad: there IS NO problem with DVBViewer! In fact it is because DVBViewer is more flexible and configurable than the other viewers I have been using. The reason is that with DVBViewer I can set the Mpeg2 decoder, which I have set to FFDShow, because with it I can really set many picture quality preferences. I have been using the FFDShow a lot, and I can configure it well, but it's standard mpeg decoder seems to be very quick, but a bit problematic with errors! When I have changed back to some other mpeg decoder, like for example PowerDVD decoder, the picture is as clear as with the other viewers. The FFDShow standard decoder is more error prone, and there is no other problem with DVBViewer except it's excellent configurability! The problem is now to find a good decoder which is compatible with the FFDShow... It can include several decoder ddl:s, so it should be possible. Quote
TKorho Posted February 24, 2008 Author Posted February 24, 2008 In fact it would be better if I could use a specific but known mpeg decoder AND use specific image processor on top. On some programs it is possible to enable the extra filters... is this possible with DVBViewer? Sorry, I'm techical person, but I am new with this program (which is the best DVB program so far)... :-/ Quote
Gioxy Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 Dunno if it works properly with the last version of DVBViewer, but you can try to use the Post Processor Plugin you can find in the Plugins section of the Members area... Quote
TKorho Posted February 24, 2008 Author Posted February 24, 2008 Dunno if it works properly with the last version of DVBViewer, but you can try to use the Post Processor Plugin you can find in the Plugins section of the Members area... Done that, now, and the plugin works, and I can select the FFDShow as the "postprocessor". Except that it doesn't do anything for the picture, and I don't have any controls to the FFDShow features. So either I have some problem, like incorrect FFDShow registry entries, or it doesn't really connect to the FFDShow. Ok, thanks for the tip, I'll be looking for more options. One is to find a new decoder library for FFDShow, and another is to try to debug the use of DVBViewer. Any this program is superior to my previous TV program, which is the Twinhan own... The user interface is just amazing: I couldn't do as bad if I wanted to! And none of my programmable friends either. This one is clear and working well. (This decoder+FFDShow is a special case which I am looking for as a high end HTPC user) Quote
