Dvbviewer 3.9.2.0 Installation Error

Description:

Installation error message with ref. to kernel32.dll and OLE registration error.

DVBViewer appears to be working in standalone mode after installation (with some sideeffects?).

Not sure it's related, but I seem to have problems getting streaming to function (it used to work OK before).

PS. The zip files is from a fresh install (network streaming not set up yet).

Please review attached zip file and screen capture for details.

Any idea what is causing the error and what sideeffects the "anwendungsfehler" registration problem might cause? How to fix?

Too much decoders installed and registry mess : some decoders known but file missing.

Just DVBViewer.exe and for instance cyberlink powerDVD Ultra works fine.

ffdshow can be used but realtime video processing consumes much cpu time.

The details in support.zip are missing data so DVBViewer was not properly installed.

I hope that this is a licensed DVBViewer version and no crack cause if so: That's the problem.

You are using XP and DVBViewer installs without any problem on XP.

Read errors could also be caused by faulty ram and that can be detected with memtest86.

edit:

You could also try to re-register ole32.dll but that will prolly not help.

Thanks for the hint ... but here is the solution that solved the registry installation problem: :)

Here is the detailed instruction on resetting the permissions for the whole registry.

This was posted by Ken Zhao of Microsoft.

1. Download and install SubInACL

2. Create a file named reset.cmd in C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools folder.

3. Edit the reset.cmd file with the following content:

subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f

subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f

subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f

subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=administrators=f

subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=system=f

subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=system=f

subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=system=f

subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=system=f

4. Enter into CMD prompt.

5. Enter the following commands one at a time and click Enter.

cd "C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools"

reset.cmd

6. After a few minutes by processing subinacl, the permission will be reset.

Subsequent installation completed normally ... :

Great but: I would ask myself what caused the permissions change.

Windows default runs fine so something did change the permissions.

So, hunt for trojan horses and other spyware would be a logical step, no?

Corrupted disk volume might be , but there's chkdsk (checkdisk) for.

One thing for sure, I would investigate such thing further.

Note: DVBViewer runs stable, if it ain't running stable then it's usual everything except DVBViewer.

So, not a bug at all.

Got me worried too ... hehe

Had a major virus/trojan/malware hunt last night ... no results (so far on 1TB data) and the computer is running fine now ;-)

I must admit my computer has been running for 2 years+ with various "exerimental" shareware software installed (its all gone now).

My "Comodo" firewall has shown no sign of intruders (not very likely behind 2 * NAT+SPI firewall routers) or outbound trojan activity .

I suspect some dirty installers and possibly "buggy" registry cleaners to be the source of my registry problem.

DVBViewer is definitely not the problem as it is all running 100% fine now!

DVBViewer IMHO still the best DVB software on the market - Well spent money!!

Thanks!
