Jabba355 Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Hi Is it possible to pause a recording and then to restart it once the commercials are finished ? I am currently removing them after the recording is completed with video-redo but it would be much easier and quicker to remove them at the time of broadcast.. Cheers Jab Quote
Lars_MQ Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 That's not possible. you can disable a recording and start a new file if you enable it. But you can not pause a recording. Quote
Jabba355 Posted March 15, 2008 Author Posted March 15, 2008 Is there a technical reason why this cant be done, or just a feature that wouldnt be of any interest to most users ? Quote
Griga Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Is there a technical reason Yes, due to the MPEG2 video compression. Frames can't be split and concatenated randomly, because they are not independent from each other (in contrast to MPEG2 audio frames). Some frame types ( P and B ) contain information that is based on previous and subsequent frames. Or with other words: They only contain the difference between pictures. A pause or gap would mean concatenating frames that don't belong together, resulting in artefacts on playback or even a decoder crash. Quote
