marklp Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 Hi I am new to this forum, and have been trying to setup DbViewer Pro to work correctly in New Zealand. I had previously tried a AverMedia Hybrid card as it promised no additional codecs needed, just use the supplied software. Nope failed. Analog worked. Couldn't find channels for digital. However, in the course of getting this card to work I discovered GBPVR and DbViewer and that both could find channels with my older TV card. To cut a long story short I purchased DbViewer Pro last night and turned back to my old card. DbViewer detects all channels from my closest transmitter Mt KauKau in Wellington, NZ and downloads EPG fine. Sound is now ok after i installed the Monogram ACC codec. Video codec caused me a problem as I didn't have a MPEG-4 H.264 codec. After some searching I discovered PowerDvD Deluxe and ffdshow as avaliable MPEG-4 H.264 codecs. I decided to try ffdshow first, rather than pay out $70 US$ for PowerDVD. My problem is that picture is good for the top 10%, with the remainder very blocky The PC is an hp multimedia 2.8 MHz dual core with a GE Force 7500 LE card using XP MCE. I am using ffddshow as the MPEG - H.264 codec Are there any settings I should try in DbViewer DirectX setup which would remove/reduce the blockiness ? Or is this an issue with my GE Force card being too slow ? Or is it possibly an issue with ffdshow being to slow for this use ? Or a combination of all of these ? thanks. Mark P Quote
Griga Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 fffdshow (in contrast to other H.264 decoders) requires a special way of handing over H.264 format information that is not supported by DVBViewer, so it is not really usable. You are lucky that it didn't crash You can give the ArcSoft Video Decoder a try - it's part of the TotalMedia Extreme (trial) package, and it's working quite well. A German user has posted two download links here. Quote
