Araj Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 (edited) I gave up trying to get my Hauppauge HVR-4000 working properly with the bundled Power Cinema and treated myself to DVBV Pro. I have problems with the channel scan, particularly in knowing which settings are right in this screen: The day before yesterday I set the dish up temporarily with one of those "satellite finder" gadgets in the coax cable while running a scan with DVBV. The sat finder needle showed well up the scale for all the stations as they were scanned one by one. However, when I got back into the house, DVBV showed 0 channels found. Hmmm. It was by now late and dark so I decided to give up for the day. Yesterday I went out again to fix the dish properly. Put the scan on again, re-positioned the dish with the aid of the sat finder and then called in to my wife and asked her to stop the scan and unscrew the F-connector from the HVR-4000 so I wouldn't short anything when I took the sat finder out of the line and connected the coax directly to the LNB. What I didn't know at the time: the channel scan had in the meantime found over 100 TV channels. So I tidy up everything outside and when I go in a bit later, the TV is being used by one of the kids to watch a video. Okay, video finished, I rescan again, half way through the scan, 0 channels found. Wife walks in, asks how it's going and I tell her not well, I can't get DVBV to pick up the channels in a scan. So she tells me "but last time, it had found over 100 when I stopped the scan..." Aaargh. She didn't realise that I needed to know that. It's well possible that a setting in the scan screen had been changed by accident - I use a wireless keyboard with integrated mousepad to control DVBV at the moment (still working on getting the Hauppauge control set up with DVBV) and the mousepad has a stupid habit of switching things in drop-down boxes unasked. So, rescan. Nothing. Then I tried changing the settings in the screen above and scanning again each time I'd changed the setting. Same story, every time 0 channels found. What I discovered when I gave up scanning: DVBV will actually happily show loads of stations although the scan shows none. So if I choose a station out of the pre-configured favourites list or via Channels in menu, it almost always works fine. I imagine either these channels have either been stored from the time when the scan ran successfully or they were already pre-configured like the favourites. So I've got loads of channels (hooray, finally) but I'm unable to complete the scan. Can anyone tell me what settings exactly I should give in to the scan screen (above) to get the scan to work again? The LNB is a monoblock Hotbird 13°/Astra 19.2° with a DiseqC 2.0 switch and I'm located in Switzerland, if that makes any difference. Hotbird is at Pos. 1 on the monoblock aligned with dish centre. Sorry for the LOOOONG post ;-) Edited May 23, 2008 by Araj Quote
