dmcq Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Hi I have Windows MCE 2005 SP3, DVBViewer Pro 3.9.4 and PowerDVD7 Ultra build 7.3.3730. DVBViewer Pro records and plays back BBC HD AC3 perfectly, but the same .ts file freezes when played externally in PowerDVD. BBC HD (Nar) stream is perfect in all modes. DVBViewer is using PowerDVD video and audio codecs as set in Options/Direct X So why cant PowerDVD play DVBViewer Pro .TS streams that contain AC3 when both are using the same PowerDVD codecs? Many thanks Don Quote
Lars_MQ Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 More a thing to ask Cyberlink, don't you think? Quote
Tjod Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Maybe the CyberLink Demultiplexer did not work with the BBC HD AC3 stuff. The DVBViewer use DVBSource as Demultiplexer. Quote
dmcq Posted July 10, 2008 Author Posted July 10, 2008 (edited) More a thing to ask Cyberlink, don't you think? Lars Thanks for reply, they say its something to do with the way DVBViewer records the stream... Did I hear you say - well they would....... Still any help welcome Can anybody play BBC HD AC3 .TS stream files recorded by DVBViewer in any version of PowerDVD - if so which please. Many thanks Don Edited July 10, 2008 by dmcq Quote
Derrick Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 [they say its something to do with the way DVBViewer records the stream... ..who's they? Certainly not iso 13818-1 Quote
Lars_MQ Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 wait, i think bbc sends ac3 a little strange. Wasn't there a problem? most likely powerdvd can not handle it. Try vlc or mpc and see if it works there. If yes then it's definetly cyberlinks fault Quote
Derrick Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 wait, i think bbc sends ac3 a little strange. Wasn't there a problem? ..there was an issue in the past but currently everything should be ok. Maybe you should limit the pat/pmt to the actual streams (adjust pat/pmt) cos there are many private streams in the program. Quote

Are you saying that I should take the .TS file that DVBViewer creates and then pass it through some software to produce a file that only has the neccesaary H264 video and AC3 audio elements that I need? If so can you recommend some software and I'll go and buy it. Thanks Don Edited July 10, 2008 by dmcq Quote
Moses Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 No, he is talking about an option in the DVBViewer settings. You can find it in menu->Settings->options->Recorder. In that window it's on the right side the last checkbox in the "Format Options" group. Try to enable that, maybe that helps PowerDVD. Obviously that will only work with new recordings. Quote
dmcq Posted July 11, 2008 Author Posted July 11, 2008 Moses That option is greyed out, I don't know why. So unless someone can advise on how/why its unavailable then I need another solution. Is there a recommended app that can process an already recorded .TS stream and remove surplus elements? Thanks Don Quote
dmcq Posted July 11, 2008 Author Posted July 11, 2008 (edited) Some light shines..... Because I was recording HD which always give .TS files I didn't realise that the Settings/Output Format - which was set to *.mpg was relevant. However having set it to *TS the 'Adjust PAT/PMT' becomes available. Ticking this, now produces an H264 AC3 stream that can be played with PowerDVD - thank you all. Can any one please explain what exactly this tick box does. It does of course mean that all recordings, including SD ones, now have to be in TS format which is a bit of a shame. Derrick Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 ..maybe the devs should disable mpeg for H.264. Then users who don't know the difference or don't read manuals won't get into trouble.. Quote
dmcq Posted July 11, 2008 Author Posted July 11, 2008 What manual? I've only found the help section and under options it doesn't even have the panel for 'Format Options'. Anyway I didn't say I don't know the difference, what I said was would someone be kind enough to explain what this tick box actually does. As far as the good developers are concerned, if they had the time/effort to provide the option of having the box ticked for H264 but allow mpeg for SD recordings I would be grateful. Quote
Lars_MQ Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 mpeg is disabled for h.264. If you mean disable mpeg in the options only for h.264, well how on earth would you do that? Maybe we should remove mpeg completely, that's an idea. who needs mpeg, TS is much better... Quote
Derrick Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 TS is much better... hear, hear (that's me talking years ago ) mpeg is disabled for h.264. ..so how could he record BBC HD as mpeg? Quote
dmcq Posted July 11, 2008 Author Posted July 11, 2008 (edited) Ok Lars - thank you. I recorded BBC HD, it gave me a .TS file - ok so far. That file contained elements that no version of PowerDVD (which is widely used) could cope with. Then, through this topic I was advised to tick the PAT/PMT box - this was grayed out. It was grayed out because, by default, the DVBViewer default sets the recording type to MPEG. I ignored this MPEG setting because my BBCHD recordings were coming out as .TS files therefore I thought this setting was irrelevant. It turns out that this is not the case because, although all H264 recordings are produced in .TS format. Unless you set the recording standard to .TS the PAT/PMT box isn't active. Once this is done then of course you can tick the box and the recorded .TS stream is different. I keep trying to ask in what way is it different because I am trying to understand, but nobody has so far explained. Nevertheless, with the box ticked, the recorded stream is now playable in most versions of PowerDVD. I am looking to use DVB player widely as a replacement for MCE, you guys clearly have the skills to make that possible. I would happily pay four times the sum for the right product, it would also have to: i) make all recordings under the system user so that the app could be closed once the desired recordings have been set ii) have a solid built in 10 foot UI like MCE with remote (not via addins) iii) manage to surface the 'Freesat' EPG, again not via pluggins P.S. Although signed in as a 'Newbie' maybe I'm not that new or that green :-) I remain in admiration of all the work done so far. Regards Don Edited July 11, 2008 by dmcq Quote
