Twinhan Newbie Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Hi, First post so hello! Been trawling though the site for the past few days since installing the player, along with any other site that I can find info on. I'm fairly technical athough not in this field :-) The software that came with my card I don't like, so turned to DVBViewer. On the surface a good bit of software. My dish has been in since last week. So with that said - any questions/comments I pose aren't as agressive as they may sound, I just try to get to the point and be coherent. DiSEqC 1.2/Usals... Is it supported? I have read some conflicting statements, albeit several years apart. All documentation within the application pretaining to moving between sats from my perspective is extremely thin on the ground(pardon the pun). The online help guide just barely mentions it. I'd like to suggest that this is reworked, if I ever get it working, I will be happy to provide near idiot proof instructions on how I got my set up working. You would be more than welcome to use them in any future guides or indeed a sticky on the forum. At least that would be one variation that could be reproduced. I'd like to see a manual that fully explains the GUI at all levels; the current guide isn't a manual its just that a 1000ft 'guide', a kinda pointer in a direction, which sets forth a idea of expectation that users should already know everything else. And clearly we don't.. well I don't :-) The section in the online manual about the Channel editor isn't nearly detailed enough, the forms that are spawned from command buttons in the app don't seem to be covered, if at all mentioned. It may be felt that this was either too tedious to do or a level of expectation over the user reading it which IMHO both are misplaced. I can't find a guide for setting up the diseqc in a coherent way that allows me to understand it, and therefore play with the settings as most posts suggest in an intelligent manner to know what I am actually changing. The software that comes with my card has a sub GUI Form that has the several methods of using DiSEqC in its various methods. It was easy enough for me to figure out to use diseqc 1.2/usals, then a pull down menu to select the sat, lnb type and then a button to goto that sat. When the dish arrived at this specified direction you then just click another command button to scan which emumerates the transponders available to scan. Grab the channels - job done. But it only allows me to add 5 sats. The software will aslo switch between sats when changing channels. But the actual main form GUI is horrible. This is where I run into problems trying to get the same to work with DVBViewer. I managed to set my lat/long and currently I have to use the other software to move the dish, close the app and then reopen DVBViewer - add the sat and then scan - no issues with doing that, I just feel I shouldn't have to... But its the diseqc settings within DVBViewer that from my perspective let the app down. I've read about other software out there where the discussions appear to be its a lot easier. It is probably me thinking it works one way when its been coded to work another but that's where the documentation should exist to put me straight. If I had bought a skysat 2 card, I'd probably be using the ss2diseqc plugin for the motor, and I went as far as trying to get it to work but failed at the channels.ini as there isn't anything online that I can find that gives me the specification of it. In any case, I've completed as much of the details within the sats, the diseqc gui and the controller form. But clicking the goto pos button for me - nothing happens. Nothing I seem to do will actually get DVBViewer to make my motor budge... I was wondering if this was down to my card having a variation of the standard or if the commands within the DVBViewer app are different etc... Its not clear at all. I know it works from the supplied software with the card. Part of my problem may be conceptual, being new to this - but the program could be greatly improved to either take me through a wizard asking what type of setup I have, where I am (lat/long) which sats I want and then update the transponder ini's from an online source and then go through those sats to scan the channels and then at the end allow me to change seemlessly between sats. It has to be possible, its just a case of writing the code. In my searching online - the dreambox has something exactly what I was thinking should already exist. If what I've explained as my issue isn't clear please let me know, I'll be happy to take screenshots of the GUI at the stages where I am having issues, and I'll narrate the process and what I don't understand... As I said up the top, I'm not out to flame anyone - its just good honest straight forward feedback - with my question about my current issue. If anyone can point me in the right direction to solve my problem or has instructions on how to set it up correctly I really would appreciate it. Could it honestly be as simple as a driver? If so, I'd like to know which one I need to install for this functionality to work. My current set up is [PC with TwinHan 1034 VisionProDTV with CI] --cable--[Moteck SG2100A Motor]--more cable--[Dish & Single Universal LNB] Everthing I read seems to mention inline switches with many cards and dishes which is nothing to do with the way I have my setup. It works with the other software provided with the card, so its either a "layer 7" or a "layer 8" issue... :-D Its probably the first time I've ever used the 'plug and pray' method :-) Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I look forward to trying some other things out.
