jimmyg Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 (edited) system: AMD dual core 4200 Vista 64 bit Geforce 8500GT DVBViewer Pro V3.9.4.0 Settings: Cyberlink Mpeg2 Decoder EVR renderer. I use DVBViewer in conjuction with an HTPC. I have my remote mapped to a key which toggles the DVBViewer screen from window to full screen mode. So I can change channels from the HTPC. This system works superbly well except that every so often the screen goes black when reduced to a window. Bringing up the full screen makes it reappear and the next time window mode is selected it may work OK. or not, it seems to be random. This is a fairly minor irritation but a cure would be nice. What is happening here ! Edited August 20, 2008 by jimmyg Quote
wefwef Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 Got a same problem here. Today I bought the DVB Pro version since I had problems with the Technisat version in combination with ATI 4870X2. Everything is running smoothly except when auto aspect ratio does its job and tries to change from 19:6 to 4:3 of the other way around. The screen turns to black immediately. Changing from full screen to windows mode resolves this minor bug. Anyone familiar with this problem ? All decoding is done by PowerDVD 8 Ultra. Quote
Gioxy Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 I'm quite sure they are not DVBViewer problems, but meanwhile you can: - try to update the video card driver's and DirectX (download and install free DirectX 9&10 update dated august 2008) - try also with different "Video Renderer" (Settings/Options/DirectX) Ah, and next time you want to pin out a supposed DVBViewer bug, please carefully read first the advice you found pinned ont top of the Bug Reports page: Always follow these instructions. Otherwise no one can - or wants - to help you! Quote
pinbot Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Are you using Vista? If yes the "Black Screen" has nothing to do with DVBV. It` s a known issue of the EVR-Renderer (Buffer). For the time being there is no real solution for the Problem except changing to another Rendere (VMR7/9 or Overlay) and thereby loosing Aero Glass or to live with it until M$ updates EVR. Greetz Pinbot Thanks Pinbot ! This is the problem indeed. I changed rendering from EVR to Overlay and the problem is gone. So, now we will have to wait when Microsoft will cure its EVR bug. Quote

As it has 345 views to date, I am "quite sure" (your words) that it has helped a number of people with a similar problem. This is what The DVBViewer bug report section is for. Yes and I did indeed read "carefully" the pinned advice section. The problem may or may not be Microsofts renderer. I think the previous suggestion of it being The EVR renderer may be the solution. Please do not be so quick at jumping on your high horse to complain about a perfectly sensible and valid bug report, which has helped people sort out their black screens !
