peek Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 Hi, I was planning to use DVBViewer as a replacement for my dreambox but, as the subject says, changing (encrypted) channels takes about 4 seconds compared to my dreambox's 1,5 second. This is clearly a big step back in performance... Changing a non encrypted channel is a lot better at 2 seconds per channel switch. Is there a setup (hardware/software) possible where the speed of the dreambox can be matched? Or is viewing DVB-S on a PC always "slow" compared to a dedicated dvb box? I'm using a Terratec cinergy S2 card with CI & CAM and the latest drivers connected to the same LNB's as my Dreambox (see the support file for further details). thanks! Peek PS I'm NOT blaming DVBViewer for the slow perfomance as it's not clear what is causing it. support.zip Quote
Tjod Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 Try Options > Hardware > New tuning method If you use no DiSEqC go in the Channel editor and select the main group and set DiSEqC to none. All other tweaks are already set. If that do not help may be the driver or the CAM are the slow part. I have no own experience with encrypted channels. But read from channels charges in less then 3 seconds by encrypted channels. Quote
Moses Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 The terratec itself switches in normal time over here. The problem is the encryption which needs some time. Especially if the mux is switched. A different CAM can help a bit, but don't expect too much. Quote

I've tried the CAM in my dreambox and it can change channels in about 2 seconds (slightly slower than my [removed]). So I guess that the Terratec hard/software isn't very fast? Are there other DVB cards which are known to be faster? thanks! Quote
Benarty Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 channel switching on encrypted channels takes on my floppyDTV-DVB-S2 2 seconds. FTA is faster, just under 1 second. Channel buildup on nvidia cards is a biet slower then ati cause of the weird way an nvidia works with protected channels= read, no unencrypted data may pass the pci express bus and nvidia card must pass the cam twice. That sounds a lot better than the Terratec which I just bought! At least my videocard is an ATI... Quote
