steve4063 Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 hello i've just bought DVBViewer to use with my new dvb-s2 box i run vista 64 and use my pc as a tv. i'm having quite a few problems with it that i can't seem to work out any help appreciated by the way i'm not very computer literate so please answer in plain english thanks right i've installed the latest version under admin rights as told sometimes it picks the signal up othertimes it says no hardware when i do finally get it working after 1/2 hour or so it asks me for my password etc and then shuts down and i have to restart it again also how do you get it tot work vist mce i keep reading saying it does but it doesn't and how on earth do you figure out the epg most of the channels are there but they aren't easily accesible so it takes you ages to hunt for a chennal and then when you've finally got it the programs ended also i have 3 remotes a proper windows mce, a happauge one for my dvb-t and a remote that came with my dvb-s2 unit but none of them seem to work anything properly. thanks in advance Quote
Moses Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 right i've installed the latest version under admin rights as toldsometimes it picks the signal up othertimes it says no hardware That's not a signal problem, but a problem with your settings. You should have a look in Options->Hardware, select your device and make sure that all groups are enabled. If you are receiving encrypted channels, also make sure that "Has CI" is enabled for your device. when i do finally get it working after 1/2 hour or so it asks me for my password etc and then shuts down and i have to restart it again That's sadly an issue with vista. You should try to deinstall everything, including configuration folder (DVBViewer should ask for that) and then reinstall. Best is to run setup.exe already as administrator and tripple check that you type in username and password correctly. and how on earth do you figure out the epgmost of the channels are there but they aren't easily accesible so it takes you ages to hunt for a chennal and then when you've finally got it the programs ended I don't understand your question here... what's your problem? There are many places where EPG Data is displayed, so you'll need to explain that a bit further. Are you talking about on screen display? Or of the regular windows? Are you talking about the timeline? Maybe you just need to sort your channellist a bit, so that it fits your needs? also i have 3 remotes a proper windows mce, a happauge one for my dvb-t and a remote that came with my dvb-s2 unitbut none of them seem to work anything properly. In setup at some point there is an option that allows you to download plugins. There you can easily get the MCE Remote plugin. You'll need that to get your MCE remote working. For hauppauge there is a more complicated way (which isn't translated into english yet, as far as I know and includes install of some programs, I won't recommend that). Which dvb-s2 unit do you have? There are some other plugins for some other remotes... some remotes work as HDMI-device and already send out there button presses to any application. No matter what remote you use, you'll always have to learn the buttons of the remote in Options->Input of the DVBViewer. If you set up everything correctly, you'll just have to select the action you want the remote to do (for example channel+) and then press "learn" and then press the button on your remote. DVBViewer should then add a line that should roughly describe the button you pressed. If nothing happens, then there went something wrong in configuration of your remote... I hope I gave you some useful hints. If something is still unclear, you should add more details, so we can elaborate on them. Quote
steve4063 Posted September 27, 2008 Author Posted September 27, 2008 Thanks for the reply i've just deleted everything and am now re-installing it. i'm just doing it normally not as an admin this time i have checked the password etc as its saved so it will be right so not sure why it keeps doing that as for the epg i just oped the drop down window and used it from there but there is about 20 dif folders and you hasve to hunt for it. there'as only about 3 programs in the fav bit and the same for the other folder sorry can't rem what it was there must be a way to edit the epg so i can just open it and only the channels i want are in there and it'll tell me whats on tv i would like it similar to vista mce i liked that i have seen that mce will run this and i managed to get the icon onto it in the extra folder but as it needs admin to run it it won't open the program. i'll have another play with it this eve and see how it go's. many thanks again steve Quote
steve4063 Posted September 27, 2008 Author Posted September 27, 2008 The other thing thats been happening today is that after its been running for a little while or i try and alter anything in the options it'll shut itself down and a window will appear saying there was a problem and windows had to shut the application i have deleted everything and re-inastalled it and it still does it. to be quite honest i'm not impressed with this application everyone raves on about it saying how good it is and in some respects yes it is good but generally i've found it to be a real pain might be because i run vista 64 and itsd fairly new to the pc world but give it a few months and most ppl will be using it. hopefully these things can be sorted with a new version with all the bugs fixed very soon Quote
Moses Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Ok, it's time you should do that, to allow further help: http://www.DVBViewer.info/forum/index.php?showtopic=2210 The list of channels that are shown in the EPG Window is the same as in the channelslist. If there are channels you don't need/want/receive, just go to channel list editor and delete them. The app is working fine with vista 64 on most installations. And it doesn't need to be run as administrator all the time, just the setup.exe needs to be run as administrator and maybe the first run. Quote
