Odd streaming behavior

After many trials and tribulations I have finally managed to get DVBServer to stream flawlessly to all the PCs in my house.

Well, almost.

I am using a 802.11n wlan (300mbit). No problems whatsoever in streaming SD channels and also HD channels, except in the bedroom client where the wifi signal is slightly reduced (although i still get a reading of 300mbit speed and "good" on wireless card signal strenght utility).

The odd thing here is that I can stream clear HD channels (BBC-HD, LuxeTV or Arte HD) without problems, even when the bitrate as reported by DVBViewer is 15mbit/sec or higher.

On the other hand, encrypted channels (HD Suisse or Canal Digitaal NL) start stuttering when the bitrate climbs above 10mbit/sec. The stuttering is more evident the higher the bitrate. Below 10mbit no problem.

I am using powerdvd 8 codecs and the CPU load is well below the 40% mark, so that should not be an issue.

I have tried playing with the server parameters (buffercount etc) and with the dvbfilter latency but to no avail.

I do not understand why I get a better performance on clear channels. If the network speed is not sufficient, it should not matter that the channel is clear or encrypted, considered that the decoding happens on the cam that resides on the server.

Any ideas why this happens, anyone?

could be CI related. What's the result with a local streaming client?

The server in the attic feeds 2 pc plus a laptop. 1 pc is in the living room (100% wireless signal), and I have no problem at all. The other PC is in the bedroom (80% signal) and I have issues on encrypted channels only.

No problems with local clients or wired connections.

So it has to do with network signal strenght, but there be something else in the CI management....
