Tinusman Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 I read a dutch magazine which promoted DVBViewer. I want to record TV programs on my harddisk, so i bought DVBViewer... But i can't scan channels. A search on this forum gave me the answer: Analog TV is not possible with DVBViewer... oops! Damn... So there's only one possibility left: buy a DVB card. But I'm new in this world, so can anyone tell me which DVB card i need to buy? Country: The Netherlands (UPC) Computer: HP M8170 processor:AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual core 5600+ 2,8 ghz 2 GB internal memory video card: NVidia Geforce 8600 GT OS: windows vista 32 bit I also have a PHILIPS 42" LCD screen with a DVB slot. I would be nice if the TV and the computer both have DVB connection, so i can watch and record at the same time... Can someone give me advise? Thanx! Quote
pinbot Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 (edited) Hi and welcome to the Forum Ok, let´s see what I/we can do for you.... First of all you have to decide if you want to go with a Satelite Dish or a Broadband (Cable TV) connection. Depending on this decision you need the appropriate card. The Cards destinguish into DVB-C for digital (some also analog) Cable, DVB-S for Sat and DVB-S2 ( Sat with HD-Option). The Brand you choose depends on your purse . There are some very good Cards for around 80€. The Fire DTV by "DigitalEverywhere" is a bit more expensive but worth to look at. Technotrend,Technisat and Hauppauge have a good selection of Cards for nearly every need. If you go with Sat you need a so called Dual LNB for an independet reception with the Card and TV. If you plan to use more then two Receivers you`ll need a Quad-LNB and/or a so called Multiswitch, The whole Sat-Story is a bit complicated and get´s even worse when you plan to recieve more then one Sat . For such arrangements it´s better to contact a good local dealer for planning and installation. If you live in an area with Cable-TV (digital) I would suggest to chose this. It´s easier to handle. Ok, I hope this could help a bit but don´t be afraid to ask if you need any further information. There are no dump questions, only stupid answers... Greetz Pinbot Edited April 6, 2009 by pinbot Quote
