Is anyone able to tell if DVBV will work with HD-PVR from hauppauge?

This thing can be used to connect STBs to the PC and is known to work with Sage TV...

But I don't want Sage TV...

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I don't understand. why should the viewer work with it or better how? It's just a hardware encoder for analogue material...

You can only view digital channels from the cable provider in Belgium (telenet) using their STB...

The digital channels are locked down like a dangerous convict in Alcatraz, you don't use their decoders nothing works...

The funny thing is that the audio and video quality that I get from DVBV + FloppyDTVS2 beats the quality from the telenet STB hands down.

I am only looking for a proper (honest) way to bring the STB output to my HTPC for reprocessing... that's it...

Thanks for your help.

The telenet STB will never get digital video out.

If it does then *only* via HDMI port which uses DHCP so active protection.

So, if You want to connect it to a pc then the best you can do is connect via s-video or plain video and use a videocard that ships with

video encoder. But image quality will drop further.

First, the STB converts digital stream tot analog RGB, You can use at best S-video which is the second quality drop , plain video even firther quality drop, and the conversion from analog to digital

is again a quality drop.

And even then, the computer will only receive the channel which is playing at that moment.

If you don't need the interactive part, then TV Vlaanderen is a much better choice related to receiving DVB .

Oh and note: the analog signal has macrovision signal.

The new HD STB that I just got from telenet has an HDMI out and a composite out, both able to go up to 1080i. I verified this in the STB setup.

Thanks.

The DVBViewer might be able to play back the recordings of this device, but it can not control the stb or the HD-PVR.

I am interested in using the HD PVR with DVBViewer (as I need to record from a satellite top set box that I can't get to work with the FloppyDTVs) and saw this post that says that with DVBLink it is possible, even having DVBViewer change the channels and such.

Has anyone used DVBLink successfully or know if it works pretty well as a way to connect up boxes like this to DVBViewer?

I can confirm that it works and works very well. :bye:

The main catch is when you install and configure the HD-PVR... the ir blaster must work and you must be able to change channels on your STB from within the HD-PVR setup application. (I use an mce ir blaster)

Once that is done, you need to edit your config.xml file (under programfiles - dvblogic - dvblink-sources - HDPVR) so that channel names and corresponding channel number on your STB match. This is assuming you're using version 1.0.2, the 2.0 beta version didn't work for me.

There is a channel export application (in zip file) for DVBViewer (and media-portal) that you need to download from the dvblink forum, this application will create a .ini file that you must copy into the DVBViewer transponder folder.

The rest is easy... scan in DVBViewer selecting the newly generated transponder (with no diseqc of course) and making sure that you select the right virtual dvblink device and that's it.

The image and sound quality in DVBViewer throws the MS media center deep into the garbage can.

I use win7 RTM, and I'm almost certain it will work well for Vista as well.

Thanks for the help, balky. I'm glad to hear it has worked for you. What most worries me is that it uses the remote control to change the channels - I was worried that would not be a reliable enough system. I'll definitely consider this more seriously now.
