Scewbedew Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 I have a problem where one of my Conax modules has stopped working. I'd appreciate if someone has some suggestion to what could be the problem. The situation: I have two FireDTV boxes, each with its Conax module and a card. The two FireDTV boxes are also connected to different computers. This configuration has worked for a long time, but a while ago one of the boxes stopped working. By shuffling things around, I finally found out that it is one of the Conax modules that no longer works as expected. Both cards work in the working Conax module. The working Conax module work in both FireDTV boxes on both computers. None of the cards work in the "faulty" Conax module. The faulty Conax module doesn't work in any FireDTV box. When using the faulty Conax module, I get EPG data and I can see in the DVB Server window that there is a normal throughput of data. But the there is no picture and no sound Is this a problem with my Conax module, or could there be something else that cause these problems? My cable distributor uses card pairing to block their customers from using the box of their choice for HD channels (there seems to be a common syndrome in the media industry to view your customers as your enemies...) Is it technically possible that they have blocked the use of one of my Conax modules (they're of different brands)? Are there any tools I can use to get more details of the problem? Quote
Derrick Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 Is it technically possible that they have blocked the use of one of my Conax modules (they're of different brands)? ..if there was some kind of OTA_firmware_update sent to the faulty module, it could be theoretically possible. But normally the user has to acknowledge if he wants to get through with the update. Maybe it's just broken. Can you get into the menu? Quote

Scewbedew Posted June 9, 2009 Author Posted June 9, 2009 Can you get into the menu? OK, found it. The FireDTV Support Tool locates the CAM module and reports the correct name of it. With the CI tool, nothing happens when I click "Enter CI menu". So, the module is detectable but I'm unable to get into the CI menu. Does this mean that the module is broken and must be replaced?
