Is it possible to make DVBViewer to play avi and mkv movies?

Hi everybody!

Is it possible to make DVBViewer to play avi and mkv movies? Tried to open avi file with DVBViewer but nothing happened ;) Is it possible& Maybe I'm doing wrong something? Is there any plugin maybe for playing "avi"and "mkv" files with DVBViewer?

No plugin needed.

But you need the correct codecs and/or splitter to play the files.

 

And from here its a little bit complicatet.

avi and mkv are containers for the videofiles. This means your avi / mkvs can need different codecs.

Maybe ffdshow would be good for testing becaus it plays most files.

For mkv you need a splitter like Matroska.

 

And make sure that in Options -> movies under known movie extensions avi and .mkv is there.

Make sure to datasave your systempartition before using codec packs. They can (not must) cause problems.

I've heard this for years about codec packs, but I've yet to install one that's ever caused any problems.

 

Still, it's probably good advice all the same.

And was careless enough to do this without saving (oh only one little codec, no more.....) :biggrin:
