Problem: no video displayed for BBC HD

Earlier in the year I was able to receive BBC HD, ITV HD and LUX HD on 28.2°. I also recorded some BBCHD and played back OK. The H264 codec I use came with the Power DVD BD supplied with my blu-ray disk drive.

Later, after I did an on-line update of Power DVD BD, DVBViewer was unable to find the codec. After some experimentation, I made a copy of the original video filter directory, put this is a subdirectory of DVBViewer, registered the CL264dec.ax with regsvr32 and BBC HD worked again with DVBViewer.

I had not used BBC HD in the last couple of months, than when I came to use it there was sound but not picture. ITV HD was the same but LUX HD gave a picture, but this was jerky with large pixilation. The signal strength displayed by DVBViewer for LUX DH was only 25% and that for BBC HD was higher but not as high as SD channels. I tried a second dish and LNB and also realigned another dish. This did not cure the problem. Because the Skystar 2 PCI card was very old, I bought and tried a replacement, this time a Terratec Cinergy S2 PXI HD. The problem is still the same, except the reported signal strength is now 95% and above.

Transedit gives the same result - do a scan on 10847MHz then view, BBC HD gives sound but no picture.

I can play back the BBC HD recordings made earlier this year with video and sound OK. Recordings made now only playback the sound the sound.

If I delete the CL264dec.ax, DVBViewer gives the no-codec error message when tuning the HD channel, so it is seeing the codec. It is also shown active in View Filters.

I have spent a few weeks trying to resolve this, including using Google to translate the German HDTV part of the Wiki, also the link talking about retaining the codec from Power DVD (which confirms what I did above).

I have now run out of ideas and would appreciate some help!

Couple of things to check that may help

in Powerdvd make sure 'Enable hardware acceleration' is enabled

in DVBViewer, check the powerdvd filter that 'Use DxVA' is ticked

Thanks, I have these options checked in DVBViewer and Power DVD BD (based on ver 7)

However, I note that turning it off in DVBViewer does not make any difference to the video. Still no picture on BBC HD and jittery and pixilated on LUX HD. CPU processing stays between 1 and 5%

I now have HD working. The DxVA gave me a clue.

I installed the latest driver for the graphics card. This made no difference.

I un-installed Power DVD and installed my original BD version 7. HD now worked again. What is interesting is that the recordings I made when the HD video was not working now also play. I hadn't expected this!
