SimonP Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Are there any plans to add 'series recording' to the Recording Service - i.e. every time a programme appears on this TV channel, record it? For me it's the one major facility that is missing. Here in the UK the BBC are renowned for changing programme times from week to week so setting a programme to record at a certain time only works to a limited extent and I still have to check it manually every week.

ahthomas Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Hi, I have had a look at the http://en.DVBViewer.tv/wiki/Webinterface_-...earch_presets_2 example but I don't see how this would let you automatically record a series that runs over many weeks/months. Perhaps its me, but could you explain further?
majstang Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 (edited) 1. Press "Search EPG" TAB 2. Type in the name of the series you wanna search for 3. Copy the name of the series and paste it into "Search Presets" down below on same page. More specific into the Name field. 4. Check the box "Add to Auto-Record search" 5. Hit the "Save" button. You are now saving this series into the Search presets. 6. Go to "Timer" TAB 7. In the upper right corner select "Autosearch Timer" from the scrolldown list 8. Press on "New Timer" button and set time and day when this timer should be executed. When the Autosearch Timer is executed it then uses the Search Preset you saved earlier for the series of choice (and every Search Preset you have saved earlier) and schedule this/these series for recording as many days your EPG stretches into the future (14 days in my case). For example if my Search Preset series is aired once a day within this 14 day period the AutosearchTimer will create 14 recording timers...one for each show and day. The Autosearch Timer in my case needs only to be executed once every 14 days. When being executed next time new recording timers will be created for the coming 14 day period provided the EPG update (XEPG Process timer) works as it should. It doesnt matter if the broadcaster changes air-time for the series you wanna record, a recording timer will be created anyway and on the right time provided the air-time change is covered by the EPG. Furthermore..you can be more selective when setting up your Search Presets by simply using features as Time Span, day of the week, specific channel and so on. In this way trying to avoid recording reruns and such. Edited June 23, 2010 by majstang
uglyned Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 This is useful, but it will only be a realistic alternative to the Sky / Freesat / Freeview series link feature when it is available through the OSD. Until then, it's second best - a compromise.
Lars_MQ Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 why? use a ipad and program it star trek style with the web interface. Maybe somebody is willing to do even a LCARS like interface skin
uglyned Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 I don't have an iPad! I have a remote control. I have to be able to keep it simple. At the moment I have to do all the series programming for the family because they can't do it through the web interface. I imagine it now ... Find a show in the TV guide ... blue button to bring up menu and there's a 'Send to EPG Search' button that adds that title and channel to the EPG search list as an auto record. I can go back and fine tune it in the web interface if I like ... but at least it's there, with just a few remote control button presses. I think the EPG search has some advantages over the more accurate but more limiting series link feature. For a start, series link won't stop me missing the first programme in a new series if I don't know it's coming on, while the EPG search is always looking for my favourite programmes and always finds them.

Maybe next version...

giant2000 Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Very interesting, but it's not reliable to me and above that not exactly user friendly. I use DVB-T incl. CI and I simply want to record several series. What is the best way to do this, can I put all shows in one autosearch timer? Can I use autosearch for shows which or not in the EPG right now but will in a few days? I used to work with Windows MCE which had a very nice and friendly Series Recordings utility.
majstang Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 (edited) Very interesting, but it's not reliable to me and above that not exactly user friendly. I use DVB-T incl. CI and I simply want to record several series. What is the best way to do this, can I put all shows in one autosearch timer? As said before, one search preset per series. The autosearch timer uses the info in all search presets and creates recording timers for all shows/search presets that is found in the EPG. Can I use autosearch for shows which or not in the EPG right now but will in a few days? Of course! When a new season of the series starts it will show up on the EPG and if you already have created a search preset for this show the autosearchtimer will create a recording timer for it. This provided you havent narrowed the search preset by using weekday, time of day or channel. Then if the series airs in a different channel, weekday or time the autosearch timer will not find it in EPG and no recording timer will be created. Edited March 16, 2011 by majstang
