Hello all, it starts up ok but when I try to load channelist to view a station it crashes..

Hardware: Hauppauge wintv 88x (DVB-S2+IR) no idea of exact model, driver the latest from Windows Update

mobo chipset, X58, model Asus P6T

grafix card 4870x2 not sure of driver version, a few months old.

DVBViewer version is 4.5.0.0.RC

It works ok if I revert to earlier version 3.9.4.0 but reverts to basic display i.e. non-transparent window borders so not ideal...

Well I just tried GE version and that works at least, I guess I'll use that for now

Oh wait I've fixed it....

I uninstalled PowerDVD 10 and installed an old copy of PDVD8 that I still had and it works now.. guess it didn't like the filters huh?

Ok scrub that... PDVD10 is innocent afterall. Turns out if I start it up on an HD channel it doesn't crash, if I start up on an SD channel it crashes... so I tried windows troubleshooting mode and it put it in XP sp2 compatibility mode.. so far, so good. No crashes so far.. keeping fingers crossed.

It's definately flaky on this platform though.

You should try to disable DXVA, i suppose this might be the reason for your crash. The DVBViewer works fine here on 32/64 Win7, XP and Vista.

If you're using Windows 7 why not use the Microsoft DTV-DVD decoder?

Based on my experience, try different versions of DVBViewer filters and see which will fit your machine setup. This is an issue to be taken up by the expert programmers.

You should try the 64bit version of powerdvd (download the trial version)

No need to uninstall the 32bit version of powerDVD.

windows64 bit is stable and yes, most 32 bit applications still work but at drivers side, stick to 64bit drivers.

As usual, XP32bit stays the best bet for mediacenters, Smaller footprint even compared with Windows7 32bit , down tweakable with for instance XPlite or disabling certain services.

Most easy to find drivers for.

I find windows7 64bit great to work on it but for mediacenter use, I would base the choice on windows version pure on driver ability, stability
