Hi,

Can anyone tell me how I can setup the recordings service web interface for use over the internet?

Does it need to be configured in DVBViewer itself or is it just in the recording service configuration?

Cheers

neither. You have to configure your network (firewall, Router) to "open" and forwad the Port of the Webinterface, so that is is accessible from the Internet.

OK, once its port forwarded, (isthere a free site where i can do that btw) how do i access it?

the port forwarding need to be done in your Router at home. YOU need to do it. Then you can access it via your IP Address (which changes often, unless you have a fix IP from your provider) and the Port that you specified as the "outside" port. That will look like "http://145.23.1.23:80" (with other numbers and port)

Apparanelty you are not into network stuff so first try to read related articles in Wikipedia etc. to get some basic knowledge.

do i need enter http://<myip>:port? in the web broweser of another computer (ip taken from "whatismy")?

ive tried and it doesnt work..

http://<myip>:port is correct. "port" is the Port of the webinterface (8089 default).

It goes like this: You enter http://<myip>("outside" IP):port(outside Port). Your Router forwards the request to the specified "inside" IP and "inside" Ports. Try to temporarily disable the windows firewall (or other active firewall software) on the recording service PC.

So if i want to access this service i have to enter http://<myip - the ip of the server>:port which port is this? 8089 the default one or does it have to be different? please help

thanks

sorry i worte to soon. ive tried http://<myip>:8089 from another PC and it doesnt work. THe 2 pcs are sharing the same router however, does this make a difference?

is it simpler to get it to work on a LAN?

inside of your network "mypip" would be the ip address of the Recording Service PC. This should work right away. If it doesn't then there is probably a active firewall on one of the PCs. Does http://<myip>:8089 work on the Recording Service PC itself?

Whe both things work (webinterface locally from RS PC and Webinterface from antoher PC in your network) THEN you can try the http://<myip>:8089 where "myip" is the IP you got from http://www.whatismyip.com/ !

Ok ive got it to work over the network

Now, if i want it to work from outside the network i use the ip taken from(www.whatismyip.com)for the server computer. Correct?

also, it only works with firewall switched off. what do i need to change in the settings? thanks

Yes. But it only works if you have correctly set up the port forwarding in the router. It should forward the port 8089 to the port 8089 of your RS Computers's IP Address! (adiitionally your IP that you see on www.whatismyip.com is not always the same. so if you want to access the Webinterface in some days or so from outside then you will NOT know the current IP Adress. Thats why there are services like Dyndns.org) Also consider, that you have potentially opened your network for hackers. So if you do that you have to rely on the Recording Service Webservers' security.

In the firewall you have to add a rule to allow traffic to the port 8089. How that is done depends on the firewall.

... but that will give you the IP of the machine you're using/connecting from then.

You should rather establish a DNS resolution via dyndns.org and then configure your router correspondingly
