I got a motor setup and i dont need to get EPG from all transponders. Is it possible to get EPG updates on only 1 satellite? And how?

Hi

Open DVBViewer:

In Channel/Channellist/Channeleditor mark a satellite position one by one in the left side of the window, and then in the right side uncheck the EPG reception settings for those you don't want.

You have to do that for every sat-position.

If it still spin around to get EPG information, then you have to check every frequency and every channel and unmark the "exclude from EPG settings" if some still are marked. I had to do that :( ... takes some time ..

+ if you use Record service you have to open Service Options. (open from the DVBViewer/Recordservice folder in start menu!)

go to EPG and change settings there also.!

In RecordService ( where you normally set timers and so on, open configuration and uncheck EPG updater settings.

Now your motor should stop spinning around all the time :)

I also have a motorised setup and would like to collect EPG from more than one satellite, but not from all. I tried using the ChennelEditor method above to make changes, but did not see any immediate effect - does disabling EPG for a satellite only affect new channels? I will try the EPGManager, but would like to know a bit more about how the EPG works so I can manage the process a bit better.

With up to 20 satellites programmed on my system, all with the default EPG settings, EPG collection can be a lengthy process. While working in my garden, I could see the dish moving West a little, then East, then West again, then West a little more, once more back East, and so on for a couple of hours*. The log file shows many DiSEqC commands - far more than the number of satellites - but it doesn't show which positions are being selected. It seemed to me that the dish was returning to positions already updated during the task. Although the Channel List has all satellites in order from East to West, the EPG update clearly is following some different order. What controls this? Is it the order the satellites were added? Surely, it's not the order that new transponders were added or old ones last scanned?

Options-Siehfern/MHW lists transponder frequencies for "extra" EPG collection on a few (3?) satellites. How does the system know which ones to check on each satellite, or are these same ones checked on all satellites (if they exist)?

The Wiki states the Automatic Update checks "all transponders in the channel list". Does this mean the update will ignore satellites/transponders with no channels in the Channel List, and where where all list channels have EPG disabled? I would hope the program checks each satellite's lists before it moves the dish, otherwise there would be no way to disable unwanted movements.

Finally, if the Recording Service is in use, does this duplicate the collection tasks in DVBViewer, or does the former override the latter? Should I simply disable EPG collection in DVBViewer? I presume both services use the same EPG.dat file.

Sorry for all the questions. It looks as if the EPG task was designed originally for a single satellite and is perhaps not optimised for a motorised system with many hundreds of transponders.

*After all this activity, I didn't notice any increase in the number of channels listed in the EPG display. Am I missing a step somewhere?

After further observation and trial, I think the instructions given above may need a little clarification, especially for newbies (like me). I was puzzled why excluding satellites from EPG didn't stop the process from tuning transponders on those positions. I did not appreciate that "Exclude from EPG" means "EPG display" and not "EPG collection". This distinction might not matter much to users without a motor.

EPGManager can be used to exclude channels, groups or satellites from appearing in the EPG - the "Exclude from EPG" box will be checked. However, it does not stop data collection - each channel may still have the "EPG" options checked for "DVB", "SFI,MHW(+)" and "External" EPG and the dish will continue to move round to satellites where everything has "Exclude from EPG" checked. Presumably, if collection is disabled but display enabled, the EPG will show the channel with no data.

To stop collection, I used the Channel Editor. Checking the 3 EPG collection options for Satellite or Group and clicking "Exclude" will uncheck those options for each channel below. Now I'm hoping the EPG update won't take over 2 hours and use a lot of electricity.
