majstang Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 (edited) I have reoccuring problems with recordings made on a specific channel on my Win7 system (same thing on WinXP). The show airs in the middle of the night, around 05.05 o'clock and one out of 5 recordings fail for no obvious reason. With RS 1.6.5.2 the failed recording was around 65 MB in size and did only contain teletext (Teletext and Adjust PAT/PMT is checked under RS Output Format). With RS 1.6.8 the failed recording is around 2,5 MB in size and contains 9 seconds of the recorded show. I can not understand what is going on and why this problem always is limited to only one channel. Havent had similar problems on other channels. Recordings pretty much never fails regardless if HTPC is woken up from hibernation or is already on when recording starts. Very peculiar to say at least. Checking the svcdebug log doesnt give me any clues either. Recording simply fails without any error logging. Does somebody recognize this behaviour and knows how to solve it? Im stumped and have no idea how to fix it. majstang Posted January 20, 2011 Author Posted January 20, 2011 Just wanted to report back if others have or will get the same issue. This problem of mine is now solved. The title of the topic is not accurate the problem also affected other channels. Issue description: - Recording Service crashed after about 7-9 seconds of successful recording and quite seldom. Approximately 1 out of about 30 recordings. - RS icon did sometimes get grey immediatley, sometimes it stayed orange for a considerable amount of time, but RS was not working. - Restarting RS did often work (being abled to watch TV and record), but sometimes not at all (restart was the only option). - When this error occured and when later on restarting/shutdown Win7 I did always get a BSOD telling me about a BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER error. Solution: - After spending too much time trying to find drivers to update all chipsets and gadgets, every effort was a major failiure. The annoyingly simplistic solution was to disable the "Allow the computer to turn off this device for energysaving" option found on all Generic USB Hubs and USB-rotnav(hubs) in the devicemanager. Now everything's back on track again and RS has been rock-stable ever since.
subvertbeats Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Thanks for the update - I've implemented this also. Sometimes I get HD controller errors in the Windows system log when my machine resumes from sleep. I know that this is generally when the HD doesnt power up quickly enough before the system resumes. As you also know Ive had some intermittent issues when resuming from sleep, so putting both of these things together I figure it cant harm to try this out.
