Kidmorbid Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 hi! i want to know what components do i need to watch dvbs channels, i know i need circular sat antenna. im asking this because i got an offer today, the interesting part was that the tuner had to be connected to the internet, so it renews the codes automatically, i heard the first time something like this so im curious, what do i need to make it work? thank you. Benarty Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 DVB-S = digital video broadcatsing via Sattelite. So you need a Dish depening on the transmit power of the transponders and your location between 40cm and a few meters, at least one universal LNB. Do check that you need indeed a circular feed, and not the standard Horizontal / Vertikal. Thin is : most transponders are using the Horizontal/Vertical and most LNB's do support this. More difficult to find circular LNB's , ok they do exist but are more expensive in the first place, not all dealers have these so be sure You need a circular one. Which broadcast Bouquet are you trying to receive and from which satellite? Most set top boxes need no internet connection at all, except to load additional info (weather info for example) and interactive services like view on demand but not many boucqets are offering view on demand. Nowdays that HDTV is getting more and more important, DVB-S2 is the way to go. So can you be more specific? Quote
Benarty Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 About encrypted channels: As soon when you have the correct CAM module and a valid smartcard then the CAM module get's updates via satellite. Valid means: legal Any other solution is not legal. Quote
EnzoF1 Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 I don't want to start a new thread for this, so I figured I just hook in on this topic. I'm thinking about adding a Technisat Skystar HD DVB-S2 card to my system, but how will I know if I have reception through the satellite. Does DVBViewer Pro have some sort of utility for that¿ Thanks in advance. Quote
desweil Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 so you want to know if DVBViewer has a Satellite finder included? no it does not. Quote
EnzoF1 Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Ok, so there's no way of knowing if you have reception, except for being able to find the channels (or not)...lol. Quote
EnzoF1 Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 I just wanted to get back to this, as I have bought and installed the Technisat Skystar HD2 card next to my Twinhan CAB-CI DVB-C 2033 (Mantis) card. I put my dish in the backyard, attached a 20-25 mtr cable to it and pointed it into the right correction using compass and some info I dragged off the internet. But DVBViewer keeps saying it can't find any channels and has no signal. To start eliminating issues, is there any way of knowing if the dish is getting a signal¿ I mean, some piece of software someone might just know about that I can use to check whether my dish is actually getting a signal¿ I don't care about signal strength at the moment, I only want to figure out if there's a problem with my dish, LNB or hardware setup.... Thanks for any help you can give me.... Quote
Griga Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 To start eliminating issues, is there any way of knowing if the dish is getting a signal¿ I mean, some piece of software Software won't help much. Preferably use a satellite finder like this one. Quote
EnzoF1 Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 (edited) But will that work with a DVB-S card, because I was told you need an active receiver for that (like a receiver you can hook up to your TV, not DVB cards). How would I go about in getting this to work, would I have to tune DVBViewer to a certain transponder or channel (eventhough they won't work) or can I simply attach the sat finder between the dish and my computer¿ I remember that satellite tv was a pain in the ar*se, but this is placing it in a completely different level...lol. It's so incredibly frustrating not knowing where the problem lies and I ran out of ideas to figure this one out. I used this picture as a referral where to point my dish at: http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/1124/astrachecker.jpg My dish (h:60cm, w: 55cm) is located approximately 4 mtr's off the ground. Thanks for your help so far.... Edited March 21, 2011 by EnzoF1 Quote
Griga Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 But will that work with a DVB-S card Sure. I did it several times. would I have to tune DVBViewer to a certain transponder or channel Yes, tune it to some transponder resp. channel of the satellite position that you want to find. The satellite finder needs to be power-supplied by the DVB card. Make sure that it is an active transponder / channel. Frequency, polarisation and the LOF values (resp. 22 khz signal on/off) must be correct, or with other words, the receiver / DVB card should get a signal if the dish is pointing to the satellite position. Connect the satellite finder directly to the LNB (as close as possible) in the following way: LNB -> satellite finder -> antenna cable -> receiver / DVB card so that you can hear/see the result immediately when you are turning the dish, without having to walk to the receiver / PC and back several times. After having adjusted the dish make sure that DVBViewer is receiving the expected channel - the satellite finder will find any satellite position, and it may be the wrong one. P.S. Better switch your PC off when you are connecting / disconnecting the satellite finder (or generally the antenna cable). A short circuit (the shielding touching the inner conductor) may damage your DVB card. Quote
EnzoF1 Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Thank you very much for that helpful information. So if I understand you correctly, I have to set up DVBViewer to be locked into a channel which should be available on Astra 2 (like ITV1 London for example, should be FTA) eventhough I'm getting 0% signal and in the mean time I'm turning the dish with my sat finder attached to see if it's giving any response. As a general note, I manually inserted these settings into DVBViewer for ITV1 London: http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/4162/itv1lsetting.jpg , hopefully that will give a response. Quote
Griga Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 I have to set up DVBViewer to be locked into a channel which should be available on Astra 2 I would use the Analyzer of the latest TransEdit version from the members area for tuning plus the included up-to-date transponder list for Astra 28° East (more about it here). The Analyzer displays more profound information about what is received. Start the Analyzer resp. let it tune one of the transponders from the Astra 28° list. Turn the dish approximately to the expected position, then turn it slightly up/down/left/right until the satellite finder indicates a signal. Adjust the dish until you get the maximum signal strength. After that, check if the Analyzer receives something and if it displays the expected data / services. Quote
EnzoF1 Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 The analyser is pretty much just sitting there doing nothing: http://img853.imageshack.us/img853/1346/analyzer.jpg Perhaps that's how it's supposed to act, but the 'Restart' option tells me it's not repeatedly scanning the transponder. Or am I wrong with that assumption¿ I'm also starting to think that my LNB might be non-functioning. Moving the dish from left to right and up and down is not doing anything with the sat finder. I might just get a new LNB to eliminate that as the source of the problems. I'm really appreciating the help and suggestions you're giving me though, it has given me a little bit more confidence that I'm able to make this work. Quote
EnzoF1 Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 BTW, would it matter that I have two Mantis type receivers in DVBViewer¿ I have the Twinhan CAB-CI DVB-C 2033 (Mantis) card and obviously the Technisat Skystar HD2 which is based on the Mantis chipset as well. Quote
EnzoF1 Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 Just to let you know, Griga. I finally managed to get a signal and it's looking incredibly good. So thanks for the assistance you've given me! Now I only need to figure out how to set up DVBViewer to receive the BBCi channels...hehe. Quote
