vondoogle Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Just setting up DVBViewer again from scratch and want to select the correct codec rather than installing too many, so does anyone have any recommendations for the best codec mainly for sports fast moving channels, one that is smooth? Freezer Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 PowerDVD 10 combined decoder for MPEG 2 and also H.264 Quote
vondoogle Posted February 19, 2011 Author Posted February 19, 2011 Gave it a try but found it not so smooth on movement, the default codec seems to perform better but on HD there is a lot of breakup. Might try the codec packs see how they work out. Von Quote
killer102 Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Windows 7 x86 NOVA HD DVB-S2 Nvidia GTX 260 (Driver: 260.99) 2GB RAM DVBViewer v4.2.1.0 PowerDVD Mark II Version: 10.0.2113.51 (DXVA) EVR Video Renderer This setup works 100% perfect. The latest version of Arcosoft Total Media Theatre also works great. I downloaded FilterManager.exe to help register the h.264 codecs as directshow codecs. - killer102 Quote
Kiwi_Tim Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 I found PowerDVD 10 & 9 to be unstable with DVBV 4.6 and W7 Ultimate 32Bit. Arcsoft also caused crashes. Microsoft codecs in W7 have proved to be the most stable. Arcsoft and PowerDVD worked fine for me in XP Pro 32Bit with DVBV 4.2, but not with my current setup. Tim New Zealand Quote
ii141c Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I think that codecs are the main mistery subject for this TV viewers. It depends on your TV card, monitor, computer operative system, DVBViewer version ... what is ok for one configuration is not good for another. More on, what is better for DVB-T channels, it is not for DVB-SAT channels; what is better for normal channels is not for HD channels. You can get black screen, freezing image, pixelations or even system crash. I am crazy! Please if anybody can give me the perfect codecs (video, audio, rendering) selection, i will be grateful forever: 1.-Hauppauge HVR-4000, DVBViewer 4.6, Windows Vista 1.-Hauppauge HVR-4000, DVBViewer 4.6, Windows 7 Quote

That being said, the main question is what kind of graphic card is installed. From many HQV tests, presently, the référence graphic is the HD 5570 and above...the early HD 4670 and above is OK too. Avoid IGP and low end graphic card; they miss many precious post process features(desinterlacing, high quality scaling, sharpen..etc..)that rely on 3D features. Don't forget you must go in the graphic card control panel to set the sharpen and, for ATI, the desinterlacing to "vector adaptative". You can also play with some other feartures: dynamic contrast, etc... On my videoprojector, the result is perfect, thanks to DVD upscaling feature, there is not much différence between SD and HD contents....just, of coarse, more details in HD... Under XP: Overlay; W7: EVR Avoid VMR9. cheer... Edited March 31, 2011 by trifon33 Quote
