Fractal Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Hi, I just upgraded my HTPC to Windows 7 (64-bit) (Core i5, HD67 integrated graphics, HDMI connection to TV) and to dual tuner Terratec Cinergy USB DVB-T receiver. Installation went smoothly and channels were found properly. Everything seemed to be fine. Unfortunately the picture stops every now and then for a very short time. It just seems like that the motion stops and restarts again. This happens randomly, but with annoying enough frequency (interval 1 to 60 seconds perhaps). Sometimes some part of the picture flashes green. The DVB Source Filter's "Discontinuities" counter increases every time this happens. Also during recording the log file shows errors. This happens on all channels (in Finland). The signal strength as reported by DVBViewer is from 72 to 82. On the other hand my Samsung television does not have this problem and it shows signal strength of 85 (naturally the numbers are not comparable), so it's not in the stream itself, but either in the hardware or in the software. The reception should be good as there's line-of-sight to the transmitter and a good aerial on the roof (to which both the TV and the USB receive are connected.) I tried different antenna cables, moved the USB receiver to different USB ports. Updated to latest chipset and graphics card drivers. Nothing changed. How to continue debugging this issue? The support zip is attached to this message. Thank you in advance. Tuomas support.zip Quote
Griga Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Most likely the data transfer from your DVB-T device is not working properly. Is it connected to an USB 3.0 port? Are there energy saving options in effect that may interrupt the data transfer or slow it down? Try to record with playback switched off (View -> Close Graph, after the recording has been started). Is the recording affected by discontinuities? If not, it may be an unhealthy interaction between your graphics card/driver (e.g. caused by hardware-acellerated video decoding) and the DVB-T device/driver. Quote

The USB-T device was connected to USB2 port and the last test gave 1 discontinuity per 10 seconds. I moved it to USB 3.0 port and the number of discontinuities was reduced to around 1 per 2 minutes. The record log indicated errors even after closing the graph in both case, thus rendering of the stream seems not to be relevant to this issue. Which energy saving options should I check? Hard drives are never shut down, display is never dimmed, but CPU frequency changes as workload changes. Best Regards, Tuomas Quote
