No hardware available / Scheduled recording fails

There are on and off 2 problems, which don't happen consistent but sometimes, wanna know the causes. I use Windows 7:

No Hardware Available - Tuner device disappears from the Device Manager occasionally, have to shutdown and restart and then the device is back again. As a note, reboot can't help, but only shutdown. Drivers are updated. Could this be a power issue, hibernation for example, or bios issue or a driver compatibility issue ? BTW, I never have this problem with XP on the other machine.

Scheduled recording fails - The task starts normally but the file recorded is small at a few kilo bytes. Could this be a tuning issue ? I have chosen "retune on missing streams" and should I also choose "Split file on channel data change" to ensure retuning and recording work. I use task scheduler and DVBViewer to schedule recording, not recording service.

Many thanks to all.

Sorry - only just seen this.

I had a similar problem with my tuner card which turned out to be the PCIe card slot. I had it in the smaller of my two options and when I moved it to the larger one, the problems went away.

I have now replaced the card and put the new one back in the smaller slot (call me bloody minded!) and so far so good. The new card maybe takes less power so could be related. Some cards have a Molex connector for extra power although should only be necessary to drive dish positioner.
